Reynolds, Zaslaw not suited up

AMES, Iowa – It's a perfect day for football.

Some pregame items after walking around the field.

* Linebacker Ryan Reynolds is here but isn't suited up and won't play. Defensive coordinator Brent Venables said Tuesday night Reynolds would be just fine in dealing with injuries to his arm, neck, shoulder and both knees. But it's probably a good idea to hold him out of this game as a precaution.

* Same with defensive tackle Steven Coleman. Venables said Coleman wouldn't play this week. This game, plus an open date next week, gives the sorest Sooners some time to recover.

* Fullback Dane Zaslaw, who said he hurt a knee in practice, is also not suited up.

* Former Sooner defensive tackle Carl Pendleton is here, but is suited up in a really nice blue business suit. Pendleton, who left the team after last year to accept a postgraduate scholarship and care for his little brother, traveled with the team. Pendleton said he didn't go to Colorado ("I had a conference") or Texas ("I don't do crowds").

* It's my first trip to Jack Trice Stadium, but running backs coach and former OU quarterback Cale Gundy told me before the game, "Man, this place has really changed." Since Gundy played here, the Cyclones have added a scoreboard/video board to their south end zone seating structure. A north end zone facility that houses the team and coaches offices was opened in 1996.
