Rhett Bomar: Do you care?

News flash: Rhett Bomar just said he doesn't care.

Bomar, the erstwhile Oklahoma Sooner quarterback who was deported in 2006 from the Norman campus for breaking NCAA rules, now plays for Sam Houston State. Bomar and his new team come to Stillwater on Saturday to play Oklahoma State, and on Monday he participated in a conference call with Oklahoma and national media.

Asked if he keeps up with the success his former teammates are enjoying – OU is ranked third in this week's AP poll and leads major college football in scoring – Bomar said he doesn't.

"I don't really care," he said.

Later, asked if he expects to be booed in an altogether new kind of way – by Oklahoma State fans as the opposition and/or OU fans (presumably unable to attend the Sooners' game at Colorado) who are still bent about his transgressions, Bomar said he thought it would be funny and he'd draw motivation from it and it wouldn't bother him. Eventually, he got around to his answer.

"I don't care," he said.

Bomar said his personal goals are still out there to be attained. I suppose that means playing in the NFL, making a bunch of money and doing whatever he wants, short of dog fighting or videotaping the opposing team's sidelines during games.

Something tells me if Bomar does reach his goals, Oklahoma football fans won't really care.
