Six first-year freshman appear on a depth chart that was distributed to media prior to Mike Gundy’s Thursday press conference at Boone Pickens Stadium.
Among them is, of course, Wes Lunt, who won a three-man race for the starting quarterback job during spring drills. Lunt’s receiving corps will include three freshmen who cracked the two-deep -- Austin Hays, Blake Webb and C.J. Curry.
The only first-year freshmen listed on the defensive depth chart are cornerbacks Kevin Peterson and Ashton Lampkin. They are listed as second-teamers behind Brodrick Brown and Justin Gilbert.
The player who made the biggest move up the depth chart was sophomore defensive tackle James Castleman, who was listed as a third-teamer in the football media guide but rose to first team because of his preseason work.
The Cowboys list co-starters at three positions. Isaiah Anderson and Charlie Moore share a receiver spot. Cooper Bassett and Nigel Nicholas are co-starters at defensive end. And Shamiel Gary and Lavocheya Cooper are neck and neck at strong safety. Gary is a Wyoming transfer from Booker T. Washington.
