Run to the Infirmary

Two college quarterbacks are thought to lack the zip of a year ago, Robinson of Oklahoma State and McCoy of Texas.

Guess what: That's right.

Guess again: Here's why. The reason why both quarterbacks are not running as well now is because they ran so much last year!

Being elusive is one thing. Scrambling is good. Quickness is essential. But when a quarterback tries to run planned plays against the power and speed of today's defenses, he is punching his ticket to the MRI room.

Know what MRI stands for? Magnetic resonance imaging.

If you're a college quarterback, run and you're done.

Yeah, Picker, that famous OSU qb, Zane Henderson.

Might mean Zac Robinson, but you never know with the Picker.

Maybe the Picker was doing the scrambling when he wrote that.

Yeah, the OSU quarterback was hit so many times last year, I could barely recognize him.

Bonsai plant, who are you, Mrs. Morrison the English teacher?

Composition errors caught by the Bansai tree and Arby with extra cheese.....who'd have thought it.

What about the possibly superb pick of Virginia Tech over Miami?

Dash Riprock (3 years ago)
Mr. Picker, what constitutes a 'possibly superb pick'? Could you ride the fence any more with that statement? Aren't ALL big time picks 'possibly superb'?

Wow Picker, I would classify this attempt as an epic fail. Did they have to lay off your proofreader due to the economic downturn?
OU_Glenn (3 years ago)
Good point, Mr. Picker. Last year, Colt McCoy was the leading rusher at Texas. OSU ran Zac Robinson way too much last year. This means a QB is more vulnerable to injuries, due to the hits the QB takes. I also wonder how vulnerable Tim Tebow is to injuries with him running the FB so much. One thing's for sure. All this running by a QB won't pass muster in the pros.
One more thing: OSU should delete the option from it's offensive play book. What is that? OU-Texas during the 1970's?
The Picker (3 years ago)
Thanks, Glenn, for knowing football. You're exactly right, as Tebow auditions for the NFL, his wild runs are greatly limited.

As most are laughing at Va Tech's chances against the suddenly unbeatable Miami, coming close would indeed be a little something. But the pick here is Tech outright. The Miami quarterback will be roughed up.

Did any of you geniuses hear how the Va Tech - Miami game came out? The one the TV jokes said had the Heisman candidate, the Miami quarterback?

Oh, here's the score. What do you know. The Picks was right again. Miami was obliterated. Ho hum.
soonerguy (3 years ago)
That was a solid pick, Picker. Everyone in the country (including myself) was falling for Miami. I seem to recall you being pretty fond of them as well.

However, this is not who can nail the biggest surpise pick - it is ALL picks. I've got you beat this week. Not by much, haha, but a W is a W, right?

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
