Sherri Coale and Us

Let's get one thing straight.

The Pac Ten is a joke. Sherri Coale, coach of the female basketball team at OU, as much as wondered this in our newspaper today: What are you people who want to join the Pac Ten, nuts?

In a story today in USA Today, TV revenues among the major conferences were listed. The Pac Ten was last. The west coast TV market is horrendous. The Big 12 wasn't that far off the SEC.

So here is a good question: Why is the Big 12 bailing out the Pac Ten?

What is transpiring is a disgrace to the good people of this area. It's obvious why the Pac Ten wants OU, Texas, etc. West coast athletics stink. But why does the Big 12 have to sacrafice itself to bail out the Pac Ten pretenders? Forget Nebraska and Colorado. Though it's tough to lose a patsy like the Buffs. Pick up some more teams, TCU, whomever, act like the fans who have supported you for decades are important.

If you sell out to the chumps of the Pac Ten, your legacies will forever be tarnished.

Yeah, too bad women's basketball is--well, women's basketball.

I wanted the Big 12 to stay intact as well but if Texas leaves, it just won't. It can't. Not enough revenue. Too much politics.

Unfortunately, without money, power, or support, a school cannot stand its ground. The Big 12 is a sinking ship. Teams can either sink with it or abandon ship for safer shores.

What are you clinging to, Picker? Nebraska is gone. So is Colorado. And your solution is to keep it together with Missouri, KU, KState, Iowa State and Baylor???

Are you seriously suggesting that those five are better than USC, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA, and Arizona? Come on.

Note to all members of the Sooner Nation; when you play in Arizona take your passport and other forms of identification or you might miss the game.

I for one would hate for the Battle of the Blondes (Sherri Coale and Kim Mulkey)to come to an end if OU drifted off westward to the Pac 10 conference. I loves me some great ladies' basketball games!!

Amen to the Picker. This is about as spot on as it can be said. I live in Pac 10 country and these people could care less about college sports. The numbers don't lie whether its rear ends in the stands or on the couch, the league doesn't draw flies in comparison to the Big 12 and SEC, which is why their facilities stink. The schools who join this lame league are allowing Wazzu, Oregon State, etc. to suckle at the teat of deeper pocketed schools like UT, OU, OSU, etc. What a disappointment. The Longhorns are canibalizing college sports in the with their arrogance.

Much of the discussion concerning the dissolution of the Big 12 is just so much hot air. Nebraska joined a conference that doubled its money. With the exception of Texas, the other members of the conference would probably have done the same thing if given the chance.NU joining the Big 10 makes economic and geographic sense.Colorado joining the Pac.10 makes some geographic sense as well, but Texas, TAMU, OSU, OU,and Tech joining the Pac 10 doesn't make much sense to me. They have more in common with the SEC than they do with the Left Coast.
This whole situation might not have developed if the original members of the Big 8 had stuck together and forced Texas to behave more fairly. They caved in and basically selling themselves for the privilege of kissing the Longhorn's rear end. I don't blame Nebraska for leaving. They may not be the big dog in the Big Ten, but at least they will be better paid to be treated like a door mat.

Why doesn't the BIG XII get some stones like the Big 10 and go after Arkansas, Georgia, Arizona, Arizona State... ANYONE that would like a better deal in a conference where they could WIN some games?

I agree with The Picker. Moving to the PAC-10 is a stupid idea. The Big 12 with 10 schools is already better than the PAC-10.

@hatethepolitixluvthegame:
You keep saying really dense comments, suggesting the legacy of the Big12 could actually convince SEC schools of coming over to a weaker Big12. Your B12 arrogance is showing its true colors. Think about it; why would ANY SEC school leave the SEC for the remnants of the B12? Even when the B12 was intact, why would any SEC school leave the SEC and come to the B12?

You just don't get it. Not even close.

Oklahoma, Okie St., Kansas, K-St., Texas A&M, T-Tech, Mizzou & ARKANSAS would make a pretty entertaining Big 8.... Baylor & Iowa St could join conference USA....

Texas & Nebraska could still be scheduled as non-conference games for OU....

Mr. Picker, this is all about money. Teams are willing to make a few extra bucks, even if it means bailing out the Pathetic Athletic Conference 10.

However, the extra money doesn't necessarily mean more wins. Just ask Arkansas. When the Hogs were in the Southwest Conference, they were competing for the conference title. Now, they are in the middle of the pack of the SEC. In other words, they are nowhere near competing for the SEC Conference Title.
