Someone fire this disgrace.
AP

Last night, which was Monday evening, we saw two extremely frightening sights on the television screen.

First, Barbara Walters came on Conan's show wearing a revealing blouse that was low-cut and open wide.

Granted, this is late night tube fare.

But Babs is what, 91 years of age?

Zip it up, Ms. Walters, please.

Next, we saw Texas Tech basketball coach Bobby Knight smack a player. The young man was at least one of his own players.

The blow was a cross between a slap and a jab and a punch.

Picture a couple of blockheads touching knuckles like cave men.

Knight brought the top of such a rolled-up hand to the bottom of the player's chin.

The sudden blow startled the young man and caused him to open and close his jaw to see if anything might be out of place, once he had been benched.

Knight should fired, ho hum, what else is new.

Occasionally some good comes of a sick action.

Media members from near and far have rushed to defend Knight, saying he was only trying to make a point.

If your radio ratings are zero, dumb opinions come as no surprise.

You never know about media members, you know?

At least now we have a good idea about the way some media people think.

In a day and age of road rage and family violence and in-your-face rudeness, embarrassing a young man on national television is an unarguable disgrace.

Brace yourself. I agree 100% percent with you here. Barbara Walters has no place in the realm of "revealing TV". She should leave that to the Jessica Simpsons of the world.

Seriously, Bobby Knight is a jerk. I have never, nor will I ever, have much respect for that man. He might be the best tactical basketball coach on the planet, but that doesn't excuse the way he treats the media and his players. The man has an anger management problem. If Texas Tech has an ounce of decency, they will publically repremand him and require an apology.

I don't buy this crap about "making a point". This can be done without laying a hand on a player in that manner. This was not a pat on the a$$. This was an act of anger, which separates it from other physical acts.

I hope he loses every game he plays. That's how much I dislike him. I would love to be a journalist in one of his press conferences with no ties to any local media. I'd rip him up. What a classless jerk...

You can't teach without putting your hands on somebody, doesn't sound like you're a very good teacher.

Try that "teaching technique" in a classroom, see what happens.

Some kid would own the English Department.

Knight has disgraced every institution with which he's ever been associated. From tossing folding chairs across the floor to physically bullying his own players to intimidating his female office staff to engaging in arguments with university administrators across public salad bars, Knight is a disgraceful human being. The University of Indiana tolerated the bum long past when they should have dumped him. Question is, if Texas Tech dumps him, where will he go from there? Lubbock was pretty close to the bottom of the college basketball food chain.

Now you've gone and done it. You've gone and talked about something I care nothing about. And I don't want to talk about it and give an attention hungry person coaching at a school in a state south of Oklahoma that which he craves. So, I'm throwing out my upset of the week...Green Bay will beat New England's 6 point spread.

I'm looking at Texas Tech to score 50 or more on Oklahoma State.

Maybe Dallas over Indy.

Maybe Michigan to stay with Ohio State.

The problem with your Green Bay over New England stab is: the same thing seldom happens twice in a row in the NFL. You could be double-whammied as it is doubtful GB choud shine as NE stinks.

Frankly, I see Michigan-Ohio State as a toss up (Kirk Hirbstreet just cringed somewhere). I think it will come down to who wants it more. That has me leaning to Michigan. I just can't bring myself to side with someone who sports a sweater vest.

I think the Indy/Dallas game is a tough one. If Dallas wasn't so good at finding ways to lose, then I'd like them a little in this spot. Indy hasn't blown people out, but just wins. That's got to be why the Colts are a dog. I'll prolly take Indy.

I think the Bears are the best pick on the board. They threw in their one clunker at home. That victory over the Giants was impressive (I had it). I was tempted to take KC at home over the Raiders, but Gonzalez is out and the Chiefs are really beat up.

I think Tech will score a bunch, but so will the Cowboys. Given their recent struggles in this series, I'll say the Cowboys lose 45-35.

As for "the game", something in my gut says Mich could win this one, so it should at least go down to the wire. I'll take the points.

Bob Knight has gone so far off the deep end that he thinks slapping that kid was acceptable behavior. Hey, I understand that this was not the worst thing the guy has ever done, but if you think it's okay to publicly embarrass a college basketball player then you are probably past the point of return. The only thing that makes me sicker than Bob Knight is Digger Phelps...how ESPN keeps that guy around is beyond comprehension. Digger made a complete fool out of himself last night by totally supporting Knight and kind of laughing it off with that good 'ol boy "Bob will be Bob" type attitude. Do everyone a favor Digger and shut up!

I guess I may be dumb, but I cannot figure out why everybody thinks Michigan is so great. Was it the way they grinded it out over completely mediocre Penn St. and Iowa, or the way they grinded it out over completely horrible Northwestern and Ball St. Okay, so they whipped over-rated, over-hyped ND. It seems everyone has forgotten that this is basically the same Michigan team that couldn't beat Nebraska. If everyone and their brother is predicting this to be a close game, then I'll pick it to be a snoozer: Ohio St. by double digits.

John, sounds about right to me. Also, don't forget who's walking the sidelines in the Maize and Blue; Mr. Carr (who has proven to be worth at least a touchdown to most good opponents).
