Six players enough? Ford suspends Cezar Guerrero

Oklahoma State basketball coach Travis Ford said freshman reserve point guard Cezar Guerrero has been suspended for a Saturday home game against sixth-ranked Baylor and could possibly miss more games.

The suspension was for an unspecified violation of team rules.

“It’s a situation where he has just got to learn his lesson,” Ford said during a pregame radio interview Saturday. “You have to work just as hard off the court as you do on the court -- academics and other things, a combination of other things. He has got to understand that. It’s a tough lesson to learn at this point, but he has got to learn his lesson.”

The absence of Guerrero and Philip Jurick (who is out for an unspecified period of time with a foot injury) leaves the Cowboys with six available scholarship players, excluding Christien Sager, a freshman walk-on who was awarded a one-season scholarship.

Guerrero, dressed in street clothes, watched teammates go through pregame routines at Gallagher-Iba Arena and joined them in a team huddle following a shootaround period.

Ford said Guerrero understands that he has got some “things to do” in order to get back on the court.

“It maybe Tuesday (when the Cowboys play Iowa State at home) or it may be the next game (Feb. 11 at Kansas),” Ford said. “We’ll see. But, tough lesson. Christien Sager will step in there and play. We’re not concerned about that at all as far as winning and losing. (Cezar) has got to learn his lesson. The team understands that. He understands it.”

So when they lose to Baylor by 42 this time, Travis has a ready made excuse.

What a disaster this program has devolved into. . .
