Son of former NFL cornerback announces commitment to TU

The son of a former two-time Super Bowl champion, Ray Crockett II has announced his commitment to the University of Tulsa football program.
A 6-foot, 170-pound cornerback from Southlake Carroll High School, Crockett is the 18th prospect on TU’s commitment list and the fifth Texan. His father, Ray Crockett Sr., had a 14-season NFL career with the Detroit Lions, Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs. He was a starter on Denver’s back-to-back championship teams (1997 and 1998 seasons).
Golden Hurricane offensive coordinator Greg Peterson was primarily responsible for the recruiting of Crockett II, who made an official visit to the TU campus last weekend.
“My dad told me not to a big-name school just because they have a big name. He told me to pick a place where I would want to be for the next four years,” Crockett II said. “I felt like Tulsa was that school.
“I liked how it’s a small school, enrollment-wise, but the campus isn’t as small as you’d expect. I didn’t want to go to a huge school and get lost and get treated like a number. At Tulsa, people want to know how you’re doing.”
Crockett II’s impression of TU coach Bill Blankenship: “I’ve heard nothing but good things about him. When I had a conversation with him, I saw all of those good things for myself.”
Verbal commitments are non-binding. High school recruits may sign national letters of intent on Feb. 6.
Crockett’s Southlake Carroll team captured the 2011 Class 5A Division I state title. In the 2012 quarterfinals, Southlake Carroll was eliminated 49-45 as DeSoto stopped the Dragons with a late goal-line stand.
