Sooner Power
Published: 5/23/2008 1:36 PM

Anybody doubting the power of OU football need only to consider this:

Even OSU grads working in the media love the Sooners!

Time was, you could count on Oklahoma State people in the media to stand up for their team and at least refrain from praising the Sooners until they deserve it.

No more.

Matter of fact, it seems like O-State people in the media love Stoops and OU every bit as much as OU people themselves!

It takes a little getting used to to hear Cowboys in the media loving on the Sooners.

The power is such that you get on the love wagon or leave the state.

What good are homers unless they stand up to your main rival!

Hey Picker. There are No OSU People in the media besides John Klien and he tries to be neutral in his columns.. Would you please give a list so that we will know who the traitors are. As far as this OSU guy, it wouldn't bother me if OU lost every game they played.

OSU is a synonym for LOSER.

Cannot figure who you are speaking about.
Could you give a clue or two?
Bill Haisten covers OSU, does that make him an OSU media guy?

John Holcomb is the only OSU media guy I can remember. John Klein is an OSU grad, isn't he?

Jay:

The unctous accolades for OSU coming from your paper over the last 25 years have been enough to gag a maggot! 'Accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative'

Talk about homers! Klein, Morgan, Trammel (Jimmy), Hoover, Conners all did their best to promote OSU and always cast a positive spin on any negative news.

Since when has the Orange media been sucking up to Big Bob? When Stoops first arrived, the bare contrast between him and Blake was enough to induce anyone with any affinity for our state to love the guy; he was sincere, rather smooth, young, loaded with promise, and he said all the right things. He promised to win with the tools at hand and not subject the long-suffering masses to any sort of "rebuilding" period. And he produced. But now...with several embarrassing and inexplicable losses in high-profile BCS games behind him, his grammatical errors and blemishes have come to the fore. Bottom line? It is becoming more difficult for even those fans who bleed crimson and cream to follow along mindlessly; subsequently, why would Aggies be on the bandwagon?

World Picker;

Some, like the radio talk show folk, would call you the biggest homer to make himself look foolish in Oklahoma sports media since the Bud Wilkinson era.

Me? I would just call you a bigot and a fool and be done with it.

You should be fired, but you should be required to identify yourself first, so all us "homers" would have a chance to let you know what you really mean to the State of Oklahoma.

Hey OSU fans, get over yourselves, you can bash the sooner nation all you want but your football team barely gets to a bowl game every year. So knock OU all you want but it is true when you listen to a lot of the OSU alums in the media. Even they realize that OSU sports has become a joke with tbone and foolholder in charge. Good luck in the popcorn bowl next year. My sooners will win a national title in the next two seasons, just watch.

TBONE, If it wouldn't bother you if OU lost evey game, I know why, your use to it, being an OSU guy. Too bad T-boon Pickings isn't an OU alumn.

Not sure to what the Picker is referring.

If it's about OSU fans' outpour of sympathy toward OU after Jack Mildren's passing, then this article really is stupid.

Mildren was a class guy. He always did his best to be even-handed in his sports commentary on the Sports Urinal (no easy feat, mind you). He would give you the shirt off his back.

Of course OSU fans will feel sad. Mildren was a good man. When we (OSU) suffered our plane crash several years ago, there was a huge outpour of support from the Sooners. We were no longer rivals; we were ALL Oklahomans.

What do you want us to say in light of Mildren's passing? "OU sucks?" How appropriate/relevant would that be?

As an OSU fan, obviously I dislike OU. But it's just a game. Life is more important than a game.

Matt, what a moronic interpretation. The picker's comment has nothing to do with Jack Mildren and, if I may say, your slovenly, insensitive, pig-like decision to even bring it up speaks volumes about your class, or lack thereof. Don't tell me, let me guess...you and the Nit Picker are having lunch at Lubys today, right?
Matt (5 years ago)
Old Okie,

What the HELL are you talking about? So I'm a slob, a pig, and a classless person for honoring Jack Mildren as a good man? Pardon me for being confused about YOUR interpretation. If anyone's the moron here, it's you. But then again, Sooners have always struggled with reading comprehension, so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised.

And, for the record, exactly to what is it in your opinion is the Picker referring? Is it just a broad, general observation? If so, it appears to be a somewhat out-of-left-field article. But that's another thread for another day.

So, in conclusion, CAN IT.

Wow, Matt, just look at that string of words you've put together. I'm impressed.

sounds like the picker has his radio on the sportsanimal to much....the osu guy hes talkin about is Jim Trabor...and you know he had to give it up to the sooners...lol

To Old Okie:

What's a Luby? (Maybe you mispelled 'loogie')

You are an idiot, everyone with an IQ over 50 knows World Picker was referring to..........
But, since he can keep his identity secret, he can get a away with classless blog inuendos and cheap shots.

You, Old Okie, need to remain acutely aware of World Picker's diet lest you be ovewhelmed by some (ob)noxious odor--considering the position of your big brown nose.

I always thought Dave Sittler sounded like an OSU apologist. (At least until the Mike Holder/Sean Sutton thing happened) Am I wrong? He's just about the only name not mentioned in the comments.
Mark (5 years ago)
NOT!!!!!!!!!
Dirt Burglar (5 years ago)
Picker shows ignorance. There are no OSU people in the media.
