Sooners open as 30-point favorite vs. UTEP; Miners look forward to 'opportunity'

Oklahoma will open the season as a 30-point favorite against host UTEP on Sept. 1, according to Internet website betonline.com.

No matter the point spread, Miners quarterback Nick Lamaison is looking forward to the Sooners’ visit to the Sun Bowl.

“I’m excited,” Lamaison said during last week’s Conference USA media day in Dallas. “It’s a great opportunity for me as a senior, as well as all of the seniors. Everyone talks about playing at the next level. Now here is an opportunity to play against guys that will play at the next level. These are the types of guys that we want to compete against.”

Defensive coordinator Andre Patterson said there will be plenty of build-up to the Oklahoma game.

“What an opportunity for our fans to see us playing in the Sun Bowl against one of the top five teams in the nation,” Patterson said. “Whether something special happens that night or not, at least there is an opportunity. You put everything you have in this game.

“If we outplay them on that day and win this game, it would go down in the history of the school and everyone in the stadium will say ‘I was in the Sun Bowl when the Miners beat OU.’ This is an opportunity to do something special.”

The general public can begin purchasing single-game tickets for the Oklahoma-UTEP game on Aug. 20, the Conference USA school announced. Prices range from $25-70.
