Sooners pass Texas on the recruiting trail

He's a year from officially joining the Oklahoma football program, but already Columbia, Mo., high school tight end/linebacker Trey Millard has already won a spot in the hearts of Sooner fans.

That's because his verbal commitment this week pushed OU past Texas for No. 1 in the recruiting rankings compiled by Scout.com.

"The Sooners now have 22 commitments for a total of 3803 points (3.59 average star ranking) and the Longhorns have 19 commitments for a total of 3777 points (3.89 average star ranking)," explained Greg Powers of the Scout/Sooners Illustrated Web site.

Remember when Texas bucked the trend by picking up practically all of its recruits before Halloween? Seems Bob Stoops is playing Mack Brown's game better than Brown. It will be interesting to see if the Longhorns take their No. 1 ranking back between now and signing day next February.

For now, young Mr. Millard can bask in a little Red River glow.
