Speed Check

Bradford not starting, what's the big deal?

He could come in on the second play, second series, second quarter.

Or not.

Jones can play. Jones 100 percent, Bradford off a layoff at three-quarters? Could be similar.

The key to the game is: Can the Venables secondary stop Miami from passing with wild success?

Here's what to watch for as it concerns the current state of the OU program. It has been almost one full decade since the championship victory over Winky-Dinky.

Watch to see how OU's speed measures up to Miami's. OU has always been know for rockets all around. Team speed seems to have dropped off in recent years.

The biggest problem with the OU defensive backfield is that they are often caught out of position. They are known to be very vulnerable to biting on play-action passes, which Miami often runs.

OU's defensive line/linebackers will need to put pressure on Jacory Harris as well. The defense cannot give him too much time to throw the football. But, ultimately, the pressure's on OU's defensive backfield.

On the CU-WVA game tonight:
The announcers were terrible. It looks like Hawkins is finished. It wouldn't surprise me if CU finished 2-10, although they do have possible wins at K-State, at Iowa State, and vs. Texas A&M. The announcers kept emphasizing that CU is a young team. Well, Hawk is in his 4th season at CU, so that is no longer an acceptable excuse, since he was 13-24 at CU with (allegedly) more experienced players in his first 3 seasons. West Virginia hasn't yet figured out how to hold onto the football. If this continues, WVA will have a tough time in Tampa, Cincy, and Jersey.

DBs will be out of position when they are not fast enough.

The line started at OU -6 and has jumped to -7.5 with announcement. The Book doesn't seem to care much about a groggy Bradford either. So, Pick. Are we suckers for thinking Sooners won't win by more than a touchdown?

I love how all you football experts know that, because the OU DB's are slow, (what?) that they will be out of position... Positioning and playing good zone defense is what OU will play and has always done well, it's not all about speed. They play and have been playing cover 2 for years down there and will continue to do that. If you are not sure what that is(which I know you are not) then my point is made.

D-man: I feel much smarter just being in proximity to your expertise. Thanks for your clarification.“…is what OU will play and has always done well.” Silly me, I forgot they were doing so well. We thought the slow safeties were killing them on the Cover 2, but like you said, what do we know?

Good call on the triple lock!

As The Pickler has pointed out, we shouldn't hear about those irksome raises and a "bonus" for the OU coaching staff this Christmas.   Wouldn't it be hysterical if they all ended up in the same line for unemployment benefits?

Do we all agree that the coaching was pathetic?  We are told that OU recruits the very best players every year.  So . . . where are they?

The coaching was about the same as it has been in all big games since Mike Stoops left. Sorry.

You bozos are welcome for the Miami and Michigan State dead cinch rock locks.
