Bad bowl preparations didn't cause OU to lose to LSU: Jason White over-threw a wide open receiver in the end zone that would have tied it late.

Bad bowl preparations didn't cause OU to be humiliated by USC: OU couldn't stop USC. Then. The next week. Ever.

Bad bowl preparations didn't cause OU to lose to the rag-tag Boise State team. OU couldn't stop Boise.

Bad bowl preparations didn't cause OU to be embarrassed by West Virginnie: a 265-pound guy with a mohawk went half the field untouched for a score, outrunning the Sooner defense.

BAD BOWL PREPARATIONS sounds like the company line. It sounds like commiserating. Go to the bowl early, go late, chew your food more completely, read more books.

Please.

What really caused the national decline?

Uncreative offenses; dull play-calling.

Worse defenses.

All true. But you have to admit that from the get-go the Sooners were walking around like they were on their way to a Boren dialogue on bipartisanship.
OSUNDN (5 years ago)
Hey NITWITTER or NITPICKER, whatever you call yourself. Can I use that question you posed to me in Pickers' last blog? It's funny. How did it go? How do you get OU to lose a BCS Bowl Game? Invite them to one! GOOD ONE!!
Royowasso (5 years ago)

Which brings us to recruiting season. OU and OSU and Texas will sign at least 5 players that each run a 3.9 second 40 or some such crap.
OU had more speed than Tex or OSU and still watched Tech and WV players fly by them!?
Coaches, put down the watches and pick up a tackling sled!

sam mccoy (5 years ago)
I'm sorry that I called you a punk. Also, you're right about the play calling on both sides of the ball. It's time for Wilson to go.
Epphan (5 years ago)
yea, yea...Oklahoma is actually slow and secretly weak. That explains the bowl, but it doesn’t explain the three wins over top 10 opponents. It’s easy to identify why they stink. But, seriously, why are they the world’s most awfullest team only once in a while. Plenty of team speed against Mizzou. Conservative play calling doesn’t explain Mr. Mohawk.
WORLDPICKER (5 years ago)
Is Stoops too loyal when it comes to keep all coaches all the time, no matter the results?
Nit picker (5 years ago)
OK, one at a time, chumps.

World Picker: you seem to be the only person claiming inadequate bowl preparation. Oops, I guess The OSU might make that claim. You know, the OSU you picked to beat LSU at home.

What's the obsession with you and OU?
You really need to call your shrink, World Picker, so much anger toward a state college football team is unhealthy. (Tulsa played a bowl game and won. So did Osu. Where is your "insight" and "observations" on those games?)

OSUNDN: Feel free to use my riddle/question any time; but if you use it in Stoolwater don't come crying to me when all you get are those vacant, glassy-eyed heifer stares.

Sam Mccoy: you're right and you're wrong:
WP is not a punk. He's a fan bigot.
Play calling on any side of any ball by any coach is only as good as the execution by the players.
Did a different coach call the touchdown plays?

World Picker aka fan bigot, OU basher : a riddle for you and your dancing partner, OSUNDN:
Q: What is the most important step in preparing for a BCS bowl?
A: Getting invited to play in one.
(Do I feel that vacant stare?)

World Picker you need to spend less time listening to sports radio and more time cogitating.
You should be fired.

I think it is a combination of loyalty and arrogance. He may not want to admit that there is a problem.

I am an OU/Stoops fan and hope for national championships every year, but I don't expect them. It is frustrating to see a lack of creativity and an abundance of predictability in the offensive play calling every game. The obvious absence of judgement displayed in evaluating talent seems to me to be another problem (see Demarco Murray's stats).

OU's defense has been alternately stellar and flat for too long now.

It takes coaching, talent and probably most of all, luck, to be ultra successful in college football today. LSU was Lucky on more than one occasion this year.

OU should have the talent. Coaching is suspect at best. Luck has been non-existent for quite some time.

Nit Picker: We'll give you $5 to go away and never come back to ruin all our good moods.

Or: I'll print your picks.

Why don't you go write somebody you have a lot in common with, those OKC cheerleaders.

Why do you continue to display an addiction to this site?

Haven't heard anybody talk about changing bowl preparations? Medium Game Bob said it.
MIKE (5 years ago)
Oh, Nitpicker, you must feel so overwhelmed with joy. All this negative attention must fill your empty heart. Maybe a name change is in order. Perhaps Britney Spears or Paris Hilton? Very fitting.

Unfortunately though, Worldpicker, Paris Spears is spot on questioning your BCS Title game pick. I tried to rationalize with you when you first announced your prediction but it would seem the damage was already done and could not be reversed. Speaking of the Ohio State pick and damage being done, you wouldn't happen to be the Big 10 commissioner in disguise, would you?
Mark V (5 years ago)
If I understand your argument, then you contend that OU's preparation was fine, but that the players were out of shape, out of position, and out of luck.

It seems that poor coaching preparation is more likely.
WORLDPICKER (5 years ago)
It's that simple Mark.
Curt (5 years ago)
When you look at some of the games this year, Iowa State played OU pretty tough for the first half, get beat by two unranked teams, and humilated in the bowl games the last four years. Why do they play with such low intensity when it really matters(except for Mizzou in which case they were mad bout comments by by MU players). This is not the character of OU. I have been an OU fan since the 1950s when the 47 game winning streak and do not remember getting thumped like they have the past few years. Why can't the biggest offensive line get a yard when they really need it. There needs to be some changes at the defensive coach level.
WORLDPICKER (5 years ago)
Conservative play-calling is the root of much evil.

No matter the size of the linemen, you can't make a yard against a ten-man line.

I bet OU led the nation far and away in this state: two runs, pass, punt.

In this day and age, the pass sets up the run.

Nit picker (5 years ago)
World Picker:
I can always use an extra $5, but you and your newspaper can't afford to lose any more blogger hits.

Since you asked, my picks;

LSU (anyone who picked OSU to beat LSU in NOLA this year is plain dumb),
Kansas( only iffy game, but if you looked closely you noted KU was as good as MU),
WVU ( anyone who picked this OU team to play 3rd good game in a row, 'away', deserves to lose $$$),
Texas (Mack not consistent, but ASU way overrated, type of team UT beats up on),
Missouri(only OU bashers jumped off of this band wagon on December 3rd), Georgia(easiest lock ever picked),
Tulsa ( sentimental pick, mostly, but good coaching and very hard to stop offense),

Addicted to this site? Me? Wouldn't it be like being addicted to a placebo? Anyway, I can quit any time I want to. Honest.

Change bowl preparations? Maybe, but not the same as saying all past preparations were "bad". He also said they have prepared the same way each year-including the years they won the Orange Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Rose Bowl. Soooo...should change be retroactive, Mr. Hindsight?

You are a huge fan bigot and are too lazy to think logically before blogging.
You should be fired.
(All who agree, send $5 to World Picker, who will forward same to me. OSUNDN, you must pay $10)
MIKE (5 years ago)
Nitpicker, I'm afraid I have to agree with John. Did you also have Appalachian State over Michigan and Stanford over USC? Its pretty easy to say you had all the right picks after the fact. But for the sake of being fair, how about giving us your NFL playoff picks against the spread--before the games are actually played, that is.
nit picker (5 years ago)
Mike & John:

What!? You don't believe I picked those teams before the games were played?
You need to look vwewy closley at all my posts and rants. I am confident you will be able to discern my picks long before the games were played.

I picked the winners. You and the World Picker did not. Your problem, not mine.

Regarding, "the spread": it is for bettors. And if one is not in Las Vegas (or similar venue), then one is not a bettor, rather, one is a chump with a gambling problem.

Yeah, I know, you and the World Picker got your local bookies; but, that is just child's play and punters like you boys might as well just mail him/her a check because you will never leave the table a winner, because you will never leave the table. What chumps.

Pro-games this week-end? Who's playing?
I'll check, but don't hold your breath 'cause there may not be a game worth watching, much less picking and even less worth betting on.

Seriously, I hope you and World Picker didn't lose too much on the bowl games. Honest, I really hope not. Truly. I'm serious. I really mean it.

World Picker should be fired. He should move in with Mike and John.

MIKE (5 years ago)
Wow, what a long and unnecessarily long rant. All you really had to say is, "You got me. I'm too chicken to put my picks out there BEFORE the games are played." If you don't want to pick against the spread, fine. Don't. Just pick the winners. And how can you say there might not be a game worth watching?! Its the NFL playoffs, you twit. If you can watch and pick the results on a game as boring as the Georgia/Hawaii match-up, certainly you can find something compelling in the Seattle/Green Bay game or the Jacksonville/New England game. Furthermore, I never said you didn't make those picks. I just said it was hard to believe after the fact. So here's your chance. Put up or shut up. And try to save the excuses, spins, and elaborate smoke screens. Grab a backbone and just make the picks.
Nit picker (5 years ago)
To Mike:

Believe what you want, I don't care either way. You don't show your picks either (I suspect it is because you are so bad at it).

Sounds to me like you are the one who needs to grab a backbone; just how addicted are you to small time sports gambling?

What do you do during the off-season? Kick your dog around?

Oh, I know, you and World Picker run around Tulsa trying to hustle college students. Wow, how cool.

World Picker picked the chalk, sans spread. Your picks were a mystery. I liked WP's picks and was so concerned it put me off of making a pick. Turns out I was right and, again, you were wrong.

When they fire World Picker, he will be living with you permanently I'm afraid.

MIKE (5 years ago)
I never criticized anyone's picks nor claimed to pick better than the WP unlike you, NIT picker. Apparently, all you can do is make excuses and use the same lame jokes over and over each post. Until you actually have the gall to put up your own picks, stop posting. You're tired and boring.
Nit picker (5 years ago)
Did I hit a nerve, Mike? Ouch. Is that the best you got?

I'll call a nurse, you may need reviving after that rant.

I may be boring, but at least I don't have a back ache from bending down and smooching World Pickers a**.

You post your picks, or shut up your crying. Either way, you are still a chump. And a cry baby.
