Stoops Brothers Yesterday's News?
Published: 1/5/2013 2:10 PM
Last Modified: 1/5/2013 2:10 PM

Odd, isn't it, how everybody is suddenly saying what we have been saying for years.

Major changes are needed at OU if it is to become a national player anytime soon.

OU needs to junk this offense, quick, or get a quarterback who can move some. Running the spread with an immobile quarterback is just plain goofy.

Josh Heupel is next in line to be tied to the railroad tracks.

But it's not his fault OU's defense is its worst EVER.

The OU defense makes heroes of most it goes up against.

Here's a question we can't answer: Has the game passed the Stoops brothers defensive intentions right on by?

Would Mike Stoops have been hired if he wasn't Bob's brother?

He was terrible at Arizona.

Not many kinfolk are so much as scolded, are they.

Can the same people change enough? Does the Good 'Ol Boys Coaching Club need to be taken apart?

Opening up Texas recruiting to the SEC by losing the Aggies was the mistake of the century.

It's time for the head coach to quit being snippy at press conferences and stop bragging about being co-champions of a lame conference and take responsibility for what has gone wrong: a ghastly defense, and recruiting the wrong players when it comes to being an elite team.

It looks like OU could be starting 2013 as the third best team in the state.

Amen, brother. The day of reckoning is nigh.

When I screwup, I say it's on me. When his players screwup, they tap their chests, signifying it's on them. When Bob lays an egg, he blames everyone else. He never mans up for the poor performance of his teams in big bowl games.

If you were to rank the coaching staffs in Oklahoma at all levels (high school included), I wonder where the Sooner coaches would rank.

He ain't gonna screw up the country club atmosphere until Boren and Stigly have had enough!!

The team (and coaching) is very inconsistent. One week the Sooners look pretty good and the next week they look terrible. Mike Stoops seems to have an excuse for each rotten defensive game. Maybe Switzer was right and they have no talent on the team but the continuing factor for the past decade has been the coaching.

I know that coaching is not an easy job but Bob makes millions and should have the answers.

"There was a girl,
Who had a little curl,
Right in the middle of her forehead.

When she was good,
She was very, very good.
And when she was bad,
She was horrid."

Notice that medium game bob has not been mentioned for many NFL jobs this year. The last couple of times the Cleveland job came open he was the hometown favorite. He will retire at OU and will one day host a radio show with brother Mike. They can yell at all the callers.

Too many bonus for beating KU and Iowa State for Medium Game Bob and his crew of excuse makers. Whose responsibility is the fall from the elite?

No wonder we are struggling in recruiting...Stoops may be the only coach in the nation who throws his players under the bus. Do you think Mack Brown, Mike Gundy, etc are using his quotes with recruits telling them "Stoops will ruin your professional career by telling everyone including the NFL you guys can't execute. Come here where I stand up for my players (see my rant on YouTube)" If the players aren't executing...it's the CEOs responsibility. If we have "B" and "C" players in the organization....it's the CEOs fault. But having said that, Stoops has figured out he has OU over a barrel. Can't fire a guy who goes 10-3 and only occasionally loses to mediocre in conference rivals only to get pasted when we face real out of conference opponents. So until he retires come to terms with Stoops making $5 million a year beating mediocre opponents. The 2000 FSU win was worth $50 million (10 years x $5 million) and counting to Stoops.

This is BRILLIANT commentary and should be printed in the final home edition every day until both Stoops boys are fired.

Bob is a grade "A" JERK. He has been a punk since the day he arrived. If you want to be an arrogant jerk and win national championships, that's cool (see Nick Saban). However, being an arrogant jerk and losing to EVERY decent team you play won't fly.

The man needs to be fired, period.

I wasn't surprised the defense got rolled. They lack talent and we've seen that all season But watching the offense once again fold like a cheap suit against a good defense was frustrating. And it's because of the same weaknesses we've seen for years: an offensive line that cannot drive block, a receiving corps that is short on speed, and a QB who can't run to save his life.

Picker you are my hero. Not only will they not be fired; they will all get a big raise. I like the one about Bobby getting a bonus for not leaving.

ND and Bama were lousy doormats for years. What is the primary reason those schools are now perennial powers and playing for the NC and what did they each change to get them there? Coaches.

When you have average-plus running the show down in Norman that's the best you will ever see in the team. Same song next year Sooner fans...

Mike Stoops wasn't run out of Arizona because he was doing such a great job.

Has a brother ever canned a brother?

The REAL "problem" is that Noren/Castiglione/Stoops are running a clean ship for the first time in OU history. It's hard to get the "big boys" and compete for a MNC when you are not handing out $$$ and cars!!

Oopps, that should be Boren!

NCAA is the second most penalized team in NCAA history with 7 major infractions. 6 of the 7 MNCs resulted with probation.

Should read OU is the second most penalized team....

6. Texas A&M — Seven Major Infractions: The Southwest Conference is probably the most corrupt entity in the history of college sports.  Texas A&M enjoyed quite a bit of success during the 1980s, winning three consecutive conference titles under Jackie Sherrill, who Joe Paterno once lumped with Barry Switzer when bemoaning that era of college football. Sherrill resigned in 1988 after the NCAA discovered that assistant coaches and boosters were providing improper benefits to recruits — one was given a sports car and another’s father was offered medical treatment. The Aggies were given two years of probation, banned from the postseason for one season and docked 10 scholarships. Additional violations by the basketball program in 1991 and the football program again in 1994 — a booster employed and overpaid nine players who didn’t really work — almost caused A&M to suffer the same fate as SMU.

Sorry ,overall violations are as follows 1.AZ State 2.SMU 3.Auburn 4.Minnesota 5.Oklahoma 6.TA&M 7.Wichita State 8.Wisconsin 9.Florida State 10.Memphis

hootie (last month)
Those stats are for ALL sports.....

Tied at the top are ASU and SMU with 8 major infractions. Your # 3-10 are really tied at #2 with 7 major infractions.....
hootie (last month)
SMU has 8 in football, OU has the second most in football with 5 (not 6 as I stated earlier). The Big Red Imports was not considered "major"
