Stoops Needs Help
Published: 11/21/2009 2:58 PM

When the OU football team plays a game on the road, the players do not put their pants on one leg at a time; they pull on tutus.

This was one not even the media homers and dumb fans can excuse. This was a Howie Schnellenberger afternoon.

Why is OU so unbelievably bad on the road?

Lack of coaching motivation, ovbiously.

Here is where things stand at the moment: The offensive scheme is shot. You almost feel sorry for the poor quarterback, incompetent as all the receivers, save for Broyles, are. One or two of them couldn't catch a pillow from ten feet.

OU can't win a BCS bowl game. Can't win a close game. Can't win a big game. Can't win a medium game.

What about all the recruiting bull, every year, best class ever; only, few if any of the reserves can play. Except for a kicker pulled out of the stands. Stoops should try that with some other positions. You up there in Section 33, get some pads and see if you can block.

And what about the world's greatest defense in the history of the planet earth? Nobody was even near Tech guys all day. The NFL the corners will play in is the National Frisbee League. What about all those charts and graphs comparing numbers with LeRoy and Dewey? Guess what. Past defenses at OU didn't check it in during the game. This was another USC-type debacle.

What we have learned here is that you can't believe a word of what the homers say.

And that Stoops needs some assistance, and assistants.

So funny listening to the blather from OU fans all year long about the inexperience of the offensive line (starting after Boise game and continuing through blow-outs of Idaho State and TU,close game with good Texas team, etc.) when the game I saw today was "highlighted" by as poor a defensive line showing as I've seen from a post Gibbs/Blake/Schellenberger team. 3rd Man, I'll be running back coach, take my salary and tell them to watch old wishbone tapes.

How do you feel about the Bedlam game now, Pick?
C SQUARED (3 years ago)
They are a differant monster at home Mexi but if we can beat them by 1 ill be happy!! GO POKES!

4 Million is a heck of a lot cheaper than the Debts Congress is piling on.  Heck! It's a downright bargain.

Wait a minute! Stoops is being paid by the Liberals to loose, thus draw us Okie's attention away from the national debt.

Hey C-Squared, ya need a bridge?

Hanuman (3 years ago)
If most people worried about their own debt as much as they do about the national debt, and as much about the 90% they don't pay in taxes as the 10% they do, both they and the country would be better off.

Weeden probably has to start for OSU in Norman.  Hope he knows the playbook and that they put in a gameplan that fits what he can do.  At least Weeden's a gamer and a leader of men.  Texas Tech was able to run the ball on OU today without having to use the option to make it work.  Wonder if OSU can do that ?  Of course, the Red Raiders looked like they were really motivated.  They played with disciplined passion until they got several scores up.  If OSU's going to have a chance with their backup QB as the guy, they better prepare hard this week and play with disciplined passion too.

Whenever a defensive player for OU gets hurt, all of a sudden, the defense is lost and can't stop anyone. Coaching truly comes into play when you have injuries. That is when coaches earn their salaries. It all starts at the top with the head coach.

The Sooners will be ready for the Pokes, as a Cowboy fan I wish OU would've have killed Tech. As it is, we're gonna have some real wood to chop.

What do they say about hindsight, Pick?  And most of Landry's passes that I saw were hardly on the numbers.  His accuracy is not improving much.

Guess What?

I just returned from Barnes and Noble and what did i see on the shelf?  A book entitled "How to Defeat OU's Coaching Staff" it's in it's third printing now in paperback.

I'm an OU grad/fan...  And I absolutely love you, Picker, in a purely platonic way, of course...  I'm truly hoping that Bob shakes up his staff after this cluster **** of a season...  But I'm not holding my breath...  There's something to say for loyalty in all facets of life, but when something ain't working, you tweak it to see if it'll work again...  There have been a significant lack of "tweaks" in many facets of OU's team this year, and the status quo ain't gonna cut it...

Who wrote this three days ago?  "Sooners finally win a close one, by 3."

The (LOL)Picker - and don't give me the "I got it right - TTU covered the spread".   You missed this one by a mile - just admit it.

Hey Pokies, be sure to sling all that trash talk on Sunday! Count'em 29-0 at home!
MexiMike (3 years ago)
Skirmish, what trash talk are you talking about exactly? Every "Pokie" comment I've seen on this blog has been very respectful.

In fact, the only person talking trash here is you.

Marathonman: How many brick walks have you run into head-first anyway? The 12th of the season, seems like you'd have figured out how to add.

Obviously (to everybody except you) I had Tech and the point versus OU and was beautifully correct.

MMike: And exactly what has OSU done? Barely beat a rotten Georgia team that wants to can its coach. Lost to a junky Houston team. Barely beat some Big 12 dogs. Was obliterateded by a Texas team that OU took to the wire.

OU figures to hold OSU to next to nothing in Norman and win handily.

Thanks for asking.
MarkB (3 years ago)
Hmm, may be right Picker, but the sooners wins at home have hardly been against world beaters. Their home schedules makes the Cowboys schedule look tough
AG1 (3 years ago)
Hey nosePicker - Here's what OSU has done - in the best straight up comparison - they beat the team that beat the snot out of the Gooners.
AG1 (3 years ago)
So Picker - who are you picking against teh spread?  OU or OSU?
The Picker (3 years ago)
AG1: You're suggesting the home field means nothing this year?

Results would suggest it means everything.

Again, the question repeated: What outstanding has OSU really done?

I couldn't say who I like now. All the rumors. But I am leaning toward OU to cover the seven or whatever. Buy a paper Thursday for the early truth.
dcood (3 years ago)
Picker's radar up on this one and that's good. Anyone who says they know how this one will come out is full of it, including the Pick. There is nothing consistent to go off. If you wanna compare scores, how do you explain OSU-36 A&M-31... OU-65 A&M 10? Like the man said, and this aint rocket science, HOMEFIELD advantage means everything. If you are bettin, pick OSU at your own peril...
The Picker (3 years ago)
Masked: With no changes of any type planned, exactly where does hope for improvement come from?

Wishful thinking?

Why is Stoops against anything new?

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
