Tiger Woods hits from the tee on No. 5. MARCIO JOSE SANCHEZ/AP

Charlie Wi is 15 under but it is the return of Tigers Woods, who is four shots back at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, that is grabbing some headlines.
In addition, Oklahoma football coach Bob Stoops got some air time and a nationally-televised swing analysis during Saturday’s broadcast of the golf tournament.
Stoops, during his interview, said he was glad no one on the set was wearing orange and took some good-natured advice from the broadcasters.
Stoops teamed with Hunter Haas to fire a 12-under on Saturday and move from a tie for 66th to the top 10 in the pro-am portion of the event.
However, outside of Oklahoma, it is the return of Woods to competitive golf on the PGA Tour that is big news.
Woods has looked very solid through three rounds and comes after he had a solid outing overseas.
So, is Woods back?
Well, not yet. He won’t be back until he starts winning tournaments and adding to his majors total.
However, he appears to be on the right path.
That’s great news for golf. When Woods is contending, viewership jumps. Attention in the sports media and among casual fans spike.
So, there’s reason for all of the players on the PGA Tour to cheer his return.
It brings fans back to the sport. That translates to more money.
