Questions abound regarding an Oklahoma football team coming off Saturday's 24-19 loss to Kansas State, a team that wasn't exactly clicking in its first two wins of the season before Saturday.
OU coach Bob Stoops took a shot at answering some at today's press conference.
Given Landry Jones' struggles, would you consider making a change at quarterback?
Stoops: "No."
So how do you move forward with him?
Stoops: "Tell him we do have confidence in him. The guy has played a ton of really good football. The other night he had a bunch of good throws. He has to avoid the bad plays. He knows that. He's a mature guy everyone has confidence in. I believe he'll make up for it as he moves forward."
Why not put Jones under center now and then and try some play action?
Stoops: "We've just been more in the Pistol formation. You still have the opportunity to run all the same plays. We just feel it's easier to operate in that situation."
Given Roy Finch's lack of touches, is he in your doghouse?
Stoops: "No. He is not in any doghouse. Roy is fine. He's doing great. We love Roy."
Does Damien Williams deserve more carries?
Stoops: "Yeah, he needs to keep getting the ball more. Definitely."
How much of the problems are a result of talent dropoff?
Stoops: "I don't know. You can equate it how you want. Regardless, we've got to keep trying to improve.”
Are you concerned with your team's mental state going forward?
Stoops: "Well, we'll find out more about it. We'll see. But I've got no reason to doubt it."
If others are panicking, you feel OK about your course?
Stoops: "Absolutely. Again, we're not going to drop the ball on a second-and-1, running a play again. Those kind of things I feel we can correct, and if we do, it's a different game. Against another good football team. It wasn't like everyone didn't know they were a good football team coming in."
