Stoops disappointed if OU doesn't win it all next year? 'Absolutely'

Love the point blank question Michael Smith threw at Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops on ESPN’s College Football Live last week: "With the way you finished 2010 and with all of the talent you have coming back in 2011, would you be disappointed if you did not win a national championship this year?"

“Absolutely,” Stoops replied. “You always are. At a place like Oklahoma, that’s what you’re after.

“But anytime you’re still able to win your conference championship, that’s still a special year. Not to take away from those (2010) guys. Those kinds of years are pretty special, when you win a Big 12 championship and can move on and win a BCS bowl as well.

“But definitely. We want to be able to do that.”

P.S. Smith also asked how the Sooners planned to replace DeMarco Murray (a problem that might keep OU from that national title).

“It’s tough,” Stoops said. “He was a very physical runner for us, with great hands out of the backfield.

“But we have some young guys that we really like. Roy Finch, who people got a chance to see last year as a true freshman, really played great for us. Brennan Clay. And we’ve got some other young guys in there that are coming on. So we’ll see.”

Stupid question!
Just My Random Thoughts (2 years ago)
Agreed Graybeard. I would hate to be a coach and have to answer a bunch of stupid questions over and over again. And the media ask these questions without even wondering if anyone cares? Of course he wants to win a championship next year! All coaches do! duh!!

Murray was a very solid player but not even in the top 15 alltime of OU rbs. Good player and will make a pro roster but not irreplaceable...

Not in the Top 15? Seriously dcood? Please provide 15 OU RBs better so I can have something to laugh at over the next 3-4 months.

It's true that DeMarco broke some records at OU, but alot of that is because he played 4 years. We certainly have had higher quality RB's at OU over the past, taking nothing away from DeMarco. Bob and his staff have always been able to put quality people in the backfield, and this year is no exception. I personally believe that Roy is going to have a banner year in 2011, running alot like "Little Joe" Washington with those elusive moves. Hopefully he can have some games like Quentin Griffin did against the Longhorns the year we scored what, 65? The D just couldn't find Quentin behind that huge O line, so hopefully Roy will have the same kind of impact as LJ and Q. Also, Bob always keeps a quality bench to go in fresh....if we can stay healthy, our chances of winning the big one are as good as anyones. Go Sooners!

I figured some smart*** would ask that:
1. Billy Sims
2. Adrian Peterson
3. Steve Owens
4. Billy Vessels
5. Joe Washington
6. Greg Pruitt
7. Quentin Griffin
8. Kenny King
9. DeMond Parker
10. Tommy McDonald(both collee and NFL HOF inductee)
11. Spencer Tillman
12. David Overstreet
13. Mike Gaddis(prob should be higher in the list)
14. James Allen
15...I stand corrected, this is prob about where Id have him...DMARCO MURRAY

ANY QUESTIONS?

dcood: So breaking the TD, AP yards, and RB receiving records along with being #6 all time rushing yards in a PASS ORIENTED offense sharing carries with Chris Brown, Allen Patrick, Madu, and Finch only gets you 15th? Add to the fact that most of those RBs on your list played on teams that rushed for 400+ yards a game. You can't really compare Murray to those RBs because they are different types of RBs and played in different systems. Prolly didn't think about that did ya?

Where is the love for Buck McPhail?

Absolutley I did think of that. Since Murray hurt his knee, he was never the same person with the ball in his hand. Still was a great player and probably will make a pro roster(note probably). The other thing that is not accounted for soonerdj is that OU's current system runs about 100 plays (at least)per game...think what numbers some of the older guys on that list would look like running that many plays. I based the list on RB skills. The guys on the list are better RBs. I never said they were better receivers or whatever(kind of absurd to talk about that about guys who played in the wishbone)...If Im picking a guy who I want to take the sweep or the counter or the outside zone, Im takin all the guys on the list ahead of Murray, hence the list...
SoonerDJ (2 years ago)
Ok so we agree to disagree lol. I just don't see how the #6 rusher in school history can rank 15th on your list.

Youve got a good point...I just never got on the edge of my seat when he had the ball as opposed to alot of those other guys...
