Stoops excited about Cowboys Stadium -- me, too

My favorite thing about ending summer vacation every year at Big 12 media day is catching up with all the sportswriter colleagues I haven't seen since last football season.
Or it was.
With Big 12 media days in Dallas and the December conference championship game at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Emperor Jerry Jones is opening up his new palace for the unwashed masses of the Fourth Estate. Many of us — those on the OU or Big 12 beats — will be back there again in a month or so when the Sooners open the season against BYU.
But on Tuesday, accredited members of the media who signed up last month will be given a VIP tour of the new billion-dollar stadium. I, for one, can't wait.
In June, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops sounded eager to open the 2009 season inside Jones' playground.
"It's really exciting. It's so exciting when you think about it," Stoops said. "And I've heard some people talking about whatever (complaints about ticket prices, parking fees, giving up a home game in Norman), going down there, but I've heard so many positives from our fans and maybe people that aren't season ticket holders that can't get to a game at our place that are excited to go down there. We've had a great response from them.
"I know the players are excited about it. Playing an excellent football team with a great tradition in BYU, and then playing at a great venue, and going to a great area that is such a strong recruiting base for us. And we have such a great fan base down there. And it's easy for our fans up here to get to it. So it's an exciting event."
