Stoops "the new Lloyd Carr" (???)

Pete Fiutak, the entertaining writer for CollegeFootballNews.com, sort of defended Bob Stoops and sort of didn't in a recent Q and A. See for yourself...

"Question: I'm a Big 12 fan and an OU fan. How long do you think the booster at OU will put up with the poor game planning and play calling of Bob Stoops? I know the Sooners won the title but that was with Blake's players. He hasn't won since. Do you think Terry Bowden would ever consider coaching OU?"

"Answer: You're really a Texas fan, right? How else could you explain having any interest in Terry Bowden over Bob Stoops? Not to throw you under the bus and start ripping since this question is hardly unique as Stoops has turned into the new Lloyd Carr, but this is nuts.

"All Stoops has done is win two straight Big 12 titles, play in five of the last six Big 12 championship games, and win a national title. There are more than 100 other teams out there that would kill for the Oklahoma resume over the last eight years. Bad times with good, as the 'poor game planning and play calling' has been good enough to go 90-17. Along with LSU, Ohio State and USC, Oklahoma belongs among the elite of the elite of the elite.

"With that said, you're right when it comes to the bowl games. There was no excuse for losing like that against West Virginia, and the Boise State loss will stick forever. That's not to say the Mountaineers and Broncos weren't good, or to say the wins were a fluke in any way, but they weren't more talented than OU and those were two major upsets considering the situations."

The money line, in case you missed it, was "Stoops has turned into the new Lloyd Carr." Zing!

If you run 75 yards with the ball but fumble it every time. You wind up sitting on the bench, or not ever getting to play in a big game.
Stoops does have a very impressive winning record... But he fumbles the ball every year..when it comes time to play and WIN the most of the big games and the bowl games.
When you loose the bowl games no one gives a darn how many games you won during the season!!

Every year an OU assistant coach or two, gets the AX for the big game loss.
At some point Stoops either has to answer his critics and win most games during a season and the bowl game.

I saw the the OU board of Regents quietly waited months after the last Bowl loss, to award Stoops another contract extention Shame, shame, shame. OU should have taken one year back of his contract!

Hey Coach Stoops. Stop using your title as Coach of the Oklahoma Sooners as a WINDOW, to allow you to spend far too much of your time as a traveling as an Inspirational speaker, and all the other self fulfilling and time consuming matters that seem to fill your calandar each year.
Your job is COACH. That means 24/7 baby sitter, it means mentor. It means that a team is ready to play because YOU and your staff have given 120%.

I have been seeing for the past 3 seaons some of the same basic issues that I witnessed towards the end of the Switzer era. That being the offensive play calling is far to slow to get into the players. Players running on and off the field of play to beat a snap. Offensive and defensive coaches yelling,, all the time as if in desperation,,,, versus coaching.
All signs of not being prepared !!!
End of Sermon.

Humm, I guess Rob needs to assume the new role as Head Coach of the Oklahoma Sooners...
