Stuff About Three Coaches: Coach Pat, Venables, Leach
Published:

Last Modified:

Coach Pat Jones of local sports talk radio has stated that when in doubt, he sides with whatever the Picker says.
Excellent choice.
About Venables applying for every job this side of Nova Scotia with a national championship on the line, what's that about?
Is that safe? Wise?
And Leach the Lip suggested that a tie-breaker might be grade-point average. Hey Leach, about this for a tie-breaker: The team with the fewest dope dealers getting arrested goes.

Leach just doesn't seem like a good fit at Auburn. Venables must not interview very well, 'cause he's had opportunities to go several places and got passed over. There is no good three-way tie-breaker with the BCS in the mix. Two teams get shafted regardless of the method. If the conference didn't have to worry about putting a team into the NC game, a point differential within the south division (capped at +15 or -15) is the best way.
World Picker

You'd better cover the point spread against Missouri.
Venables interviewing isn't a negative?
Jeremy

It ceratinly isn't positive. Any distraction from game planning for the Tigers is negative. I wish teams would wait until after the regular season ends (including conference title games) before interviewing/firing coaches. As for covering the number, I think OU is 10-2 against it this season. Not sure they have too here as many voters will likely sway to the conference champ. OU needs to play well though to ensure a trip to Miami...that much I'll agree with. Someone needs to formulate a contract that all conferences and university president's will sign with the NCAA that splits the $$$$ from a playoff...maybe we can get the thing going then.

My two cents for this weekend's games: Jenks over Union, Florida 24 - Bama 17, OU 52 - MU 31, Tulsa names score over ECU, VT-BC who cares. Oh...and my Steelers spank the Cowboys 27-13.

Ramble on. Here's how good OU's offense has been this year: they've given up 4 KO TD's, their place kicker is batting .667 on FG's and prolly not much better on extra points, and yet they continue to put up scores that the OU women's hoop team would be proud of. This just in...the Sooner women are so slow that the officials regularly win the race down the court.

Venables is probably marginal HC material at best.
His interviewing should not be much of a distraction - unless they cancel practice while he is gone.
Is it true that OSU' defensive coordinator got assurances from Toledo that they would not, under any circumstances, schedule OU as long as Sam was still in school?
Having Coach Pat consider you a peer ought to give you pause, World Picker; especially given the hammering you have put on his opinions in this forum.
Inconsistency is your most consistent fault, World Picker.
It is very tempting to take Missouri and the points at home this week. Too bad you are broke, World Picker.

(1) Doubters tend to side with Doubters, obviously in the case you speak of.
(2) I have always wanted to hire people who want to improve themselves position wise, as well as financially. It's the American way...the pursuit of the American dream, why discredit someone wanting to step up, for himself, as well as his family?
(3)It's amazing Mr. Picker that you would even bring up Mike Leach, seeing how you have left him and his team out of EVERY discussion concerning the Big XII South 3-way tie... typical 'Picker Spin'.
Mack Brown

It is unfair to Texas use the fewest dope dealers arrested as a tie breaker.
How about we use something more appropriate like maybe we go in alphabetical order by head coach last name.
That's fair.
Mike Leach

Dash;
Talking logic to World Picker is like talking logic to Mack Brown.
On the other hand, Picker has his head so far up Mack's caboose talking to one is the same as talking to both.

Knit Picker: Pat Jones is now a genius.
Dash Rockhead: The first tie-breaker for Tech was Nebraska taking that joke team to overtime in Lubbock. Do you get it yet? The last tie-breaker was drug dealers on the loose.
It's pretty amazing all right nobody as yet wants Venables to take over and show them how to chase a quarterback all over the county.

Forget Venables not giving a good interview; all prospective employers need to see are the 'highlights' of his defenses cross-country shags against (take your pick) Boise State, West Virginia, USC, Oklahoma State, Texas, ad nauseum. That Oklahoma is the top defensive team in the conference at the moment is far less a tribute to the Sooners D than it is to the offense prowess of the league. Venables is a top-notch linebacker coach; he leaves much to be desired as a defensive coordinator. And Bobby Jack Wright is in the same league. An A-one recuiter, but a bit weak on the x's and o's. A few weeks ago Jimmy Harris (remember him?) told BJ that he should teach his team how to tackle...'just grab someone and hang on until help arrives' he said in a joking (but earnest) fashion. Word has it that BJ got his feelings hurt over that one. We need new defensive coordinators. Period.

Alright Licker, I'm back.
But only for a moment (if I don't get banned!!!!!)
I had to stay away for a moment because this whole blog seemed to be on the fritz. I can only assume that your empty-headed, and halfwitted comments caused the entire Tulsa World computer network to seize up. I know how that network feels- your sub-moronic comments almost caused my brain to take a permanent leave of their faculties.

Good morning Mr. Picker. Coach Jones also said (several times)that Penn State could win the Big 12 South hands down. That was before they played Iowa.
By the way, is Mr. Holder handling the ticket sales for the Tulsa Champioship game?
I guess the crowds and the street parties will be legend.
A year late on your OU pick against Missouri. At least you picked them not to cover. Another generous Christmas gift. Thank you .
Merry Christmas to you and Coach Jones.

Hey picker, Pat Jones is obviously smoking something else besides those cigars he's always talking about.
You want Vulnerables gone yet you complain when he may get the chance to leave. (Yes, his job opportunities will create some distractions)
Does Tech have an abundance of geniuses and/or dopers?

Why didn't anyone express surprise and amazement at Fla opening minus 10. Did everyone forget fla was #4 at 10-1 and 'Bama was almost year long #1 at 11-0? This seems to prove the bettors are a lot smarter than all the pollsters.

My family and I were in the backyard yesterday. One of our dogs was struck by a football. It did not have enough velocity on it to do any harm. It had TU on it. The dogs want to keep it. What should we do?

Just because someone is an assisant coach at OU doesn't make them the best canidate for a HC job. Venabales has been there what 10 years? He is just another Chuck Long or Mike Stoops maybe 6-6 at best as a HC. I suggest Venables take a Bowling Green or Miami OH job like Beckman with Toledo and proving yourself. I found it interesting how Sumlin got a job before Venables wasn't he lower on the OU coaches totem pole? Leach would bring some interest to SEC games, but eventually would be what he is in the Big 12 maybe third in his own division. I always go against what Pat Jones says, like OU should be embarrassed playing Boise State, OU would drill WVU, Texas isn't any good this year right before that Red River 45-35 game and he said why is everyone on Florida bandwagon and saying Alabama is a lock. What a joke! Kevin Wilson maybe the only OU coach I'd consider.

Coach Venables, Chuck Long is on the phone for you.
I sure would hate to be the team that lost to the joke team that was taken to the wire by Nebraska in Lubbock....funny how that works.
