Super Bowl: All-Time Bragging Rights At Stake

Football fans are funny. They don't just want their team to be the best right now. For bragging rights purposes, they want their team to be the best of all time.
For instance, there were Oklahoma fans who rooted for Texas -- Texas! -- in the 2006 Rose Bowl. Why? Because the opponent was USC and the Trojans, who had won 34 consecutive games, were hot on the trail of the Sooners' NCAA record 47-game winning streak.
Same deal on the NFL level. Fans of the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers just got really interested in the Super Bowl because the Pittsburgh Steelers happen to be in it.
Dallas, Pittsburgh and San Francisco share the record for Super Bowl titles with five.
The Steelers can win a sixth Super Bowl and earn solo bragging rights if they can get past Arizona in two weeks. That's not tolerable if you are a fan of the 49ers or Cowboys, so -- for at least one day -- people in San Francisco and Dallas will band together and pull hard for the Cardinals.
Even in sports, the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
