TCU, Troy Appear to be Tests

Miuch has been said about the lack of a quality opponents among the victims of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Tulsa.
Washington and Houston no longer appear to be the level we previously thought.
However, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are playing real opponents this week.
The Sooners get an unbeaten and ranked TCU in Norman. OSU has Troy, always a dangerous foe for teams in BCS leagues.
TCU has shown thus far in the season that it may be capable of joining in what could be a wild race in the Mountain West with a couple of other possible BCS busters - BYU and Utah.
Ohio State needed to score 14 points in the fourth quarter to beat Troy by 18.
In other words, OU and OSU have games that shoiuld give us a better read of where the Sooners and Cowboys are headed.
We think we know. But, TCU andTroy will give us a much better picture.

Agreed. Good read.

With that said, if OSU beats Troy by more than 18 do they deserve to be ranked equally with the other OSU?

With that said, Troy beat OSU by 18 last year (Ironic?), I just hope the pokes can avoid another horrible embarassment, because this is a good Troy team. Here's to 12-0 for the state.

THere is no doubt that Troy is the non-conference game that will test OSU the most. Witha high powered offense, this game should illuminate any real weakness in the defense for OSU. WHile I admit that the defense has looked better, they need this to become a solid unit (or to prep fans for another heart-breaking season)

If the Pokes win Saturday (75% chance) then 5-0 is a realistic expectation. THrow in Baylor and Iowa State as highly probable wins and your at 7-5 (best Gundy season EVER). You then have to look at the tougher games for your true tests. If all 7 games listed are wins, then I can see 9-3 as an attainable regular season record (losses against Missouri, Texas, and Oklahoma) with 10-2 a real possibility (OSU has a real chance to win at Texas with their secondary being so porous).

The irony does abound in the scores, but 10-2 I think is reaching for OSU at this stage. Even if we hammer Troy by let's say 21, that still doesn't necessarily leave us better than Mizzou, Texas, Texas Tech, and OU. Beyond that we have to travel to 3 of the 4 of those and it would be one thing if the somewhat easier games were in Stillwater and gave us better upset chances, but the hardest game is in Stillwater leaving us less of a chance to have an upset against those lesser teams. That still puts us at 8-4. That is also assuming that the games against Mizzou, Texas, and Texas Tech don't leave us beleaguered when we get to those mountains in Colorado. Colorado looks to be sub-par. Does anyone really think West. Va is that good? They lost to Colorado and got beat up by an ECU team that just lost some of its luster. Nevertheless they are still at least an OK team and if we don't have our stuff together for that game we probably won't walk out victorious.

Beating Troy handily means that 7-5 should be the minimum with a goal of 8-4 and a parade if 9-3. Troy may be good but not that good when compared with the competition OSU will face later in the season, especially the road competition.
