TU Basketball's Continuing Struggles
Published: 12/21/2011 3:59 PM

Tulsa’s dwindling fan base, now down to the most loyal supporters, has mirrored the lack of success by Golden Hurricane basketball.
TU coach Doug Wojcik is in his seventh season. No NCAA Tournaments. Not even a few close calls on the bubble on selection Sunday.
As a result, Tulsa is nearing nine years without an NCAA Tournament, the worst stretch of TU basketball since the 1970s.
Luckily for TU basketball, TU football has been so successful that not that many folks have noticed.
Nine years with no NCAA Tournaments? During that same time, Tulsa football has gone to seven bowls and has made some appearances in the nation’s top 25.
Success in football can overshadow everything else in an athletic department. That has certainly been the case at Tulsa.
That’s the upside for TU. College football has been pushing all of the conference realignment in college athletics and Tulsa’s football has certainly been very good.
During the past nine years, Tulsa football has not only pushed its way into the top 25 but it has also resulted in a complete renovation of Chapman Stadium.
Still, questions are being asked these days about Tulsa basketball.
One wonders what answers Tulsa officials have about the future of Golden Hurricane basketball.

But What Do I Know? (last year)
Keep the headline on your hard drive. Unfortunately I think it might need to be used again, probably several times.
Markk (last year)
I doubt Wojcik will resign on Christmas Day, and it may be that he should stay until the end of the season unless the team completely craters in the interim. The TU administration needs to show some leadership after the season ends and make a change. If there is no change, then will confirm that TU has (mysteriously and for no good reason) given up on men's basketball.

There is no leadership at TU at the moment. Bubba is gone, Prez is leaving. Rudderless and aimless basketball will stumble along another year anyway. The scared cow (football) is rolling under its own momentum but will crater too if some strong leadership doesnt emerge soon. The top dogs at TU are still drawing paychecks, they should earn them.
