TU Doesn't Handle the Big Time

First, the football team comes up short against Arkansas and is overwhelmed at Houston.
Now, an apparently average Big 12 team, Oklahoma State, obliterates the TU basketball team.
Remember last spring, when TU won the tournament for losers? Fans stood and cheered. We said standing and cheering was fine, but just remember, the real world was still out there waiting.
So much for the cheesy tournament preparing TU for unprecedented greatness.
Worse than the defeat is the way certain TU people are handling the loss to OSU. Instead of saying it was pretty disgusting, which it was, some are saying, hey, we played better and came back in the second half. Listen, people, if you're behind 30 at the half, an office team could cut it to 18. Don't you get anything? The team ahead 30 or 40 doesn't play the same way in the second half. Cutting a humiliating margin to simply a huge margin means nothing.
Same as that tournament.
All is not lost. But keep it real people.

TU fans cried for years that OSU wouldn't play them because OSU was scared. Be careful what u wish for!!!!

John, exactly.
Sure has been quiet after TU games lately.

Picker, a typo in the title of this blog. "Doesn't" should actually be "can't"
TU Fannatic

Picker...oh yeah? Well, if you're so smart hows come you aint rich and still writing for the World?
Bilbo Baggins
That's all because TU isn't IN the big time. They're small fish.
TU Fannatic,
We've been trying to figure this out for a long time. Just take your ball and go home if you don't want to play.
TAB

That was freaking terrible last night. Woj should buy my ticket. I want to believe, but there really were no positives. It's year four and TU has no point guard, a couple of under-sized wing players, and a bench player starting. That's not good enough.

Way to show up, Tab.
Where's the apology about the tourney attack you directed this way?
Not to name names when dealing with college lads, so let's focus on the area of the floor where help is needed: inside.

As a TU fan I was not expecting "unprecedented greatness" this season, which for Tulsa would be a Final Four. Did you know anyone actually expecting a Final Four for TU this year Picker? Do you think this loss was worse than the loss to Hampton last year?
Perhaps you saw a team that simply played well because they don't have to look over their shoulders on the court lest their coach, bottle in hand, would somehow run them over with a car at the free throw line. That would be a weight off my mind too if I played for State.
World Picker

Before the tip, it didn't seem to be too much to ask to stay within 20 of an average Big 12 team at the half.

You only expected that because you underestimated the "not afraid of getting run over by a drunken Eddie Sutton's car on the court" factor, Picker. If you lost money on the game it's only due to your stubborn reluctance to acknowledge the impact of that factor on the OSU player's minds and therefore, playing ability.

SAX,
Eddie Sutton has been retired for 3+ years now....quit attacking him and deal with how poorly TU played and / or was coached.
TAB

I don't recall any tourney attack. I haven't followed your blog comments for awhile, Picker. I really enjoyed your Thursday column, though. I think you might need a nap.
I tried Chicago Style or whatever it is called over on 11th. Not bad. A little rough around the edges.

Stacy, I deserve it, it's all my fault, cry, drink, cry, drink, drive, crash, cry, coach basketball.

Well, Eddie, the picker is from OU, so you can drink and drive all you want. I think by the end of the season, the rest of your family will be joining you in the drunk tank.

Hey Licker,
You're worst dreams are coming true. I made you look stupid again. Actually you made yourself look stupid by betting against me, but whatever. Didn't I tell you there was a lot of football yet to be played? You still want me to pay off that bet? I think you better be getting my order ready.
How about Oregon State? You remember what you told me about them after they beat USC? Is the Rose Bowl a good bowl? I forget.

Nose Picker, surely has been quiet at TU lately? Guess your finger was too far up your nose to notice TU humilated Tulane 56-7 yesterday! At least TU basketball won a tournament game last year, which was more than Oklahoma's Sorry University did! TU might not have the best football or basketball team in the state, but it surely is Numero Uno in academics!! US News rqanks TU 83 in Tier 1, OU 108 and Stoolwater Tech a Tier 3 sschool! Why don't you blowthe snot out your nose and slenk off to STOOL WATER to work??????You're a disgrace to the Fayetville World!!!!!
TUHURRICANEFAN

Sure pick on us, we are not playing well at all right now. Remember that awful display of "skill" against ORU? And yes the fans are very quiet right now. I mean who in their right mind mind would let opposing fans come in and show you up by being louder and rowdier than you (as ORU fan did)? Don't foget though as March approaches we do play better. So take your shots now because when dance time comes OSU will be the ugly girl at the prom wishing she could join only to have her shadow run from her!!
