TU Draws Flies
Published: 12/31/2007 2:00 PM
Last Modified: 12/31/2007 2:00 PM

The TU basketball coach went off on his school's administration, residents of the City of Tulsa, his student body, and Santa Claus, for a lack of attendance at basketball games.

Here is the way to draw fans at TU hoop games.

1. Win recruiting battles against first-rate competition.

2. Defeat a team or two in the top 100.

3. Play a better home schedule.

4. Do not get obliterated by rival ORU.

5. Do not get massacred by rival OU.

6. Get into the NCAA tournament.

7. Do not say Wichita State's program is better.

8. Don't schedule bad games over the Christmas break.

9. Don't blame citizens.

19. Don't blame the pep band.

Radio stations that put on Russian cooking shows have better ratings than local sports talk radio.

Wrong blog. Meant for one below. But the statement is still true.

TU had very good crowds when the games were on tv locally where the fans could see the team in action, get player favorites to follow. I use to attend every game until the move to the new Reyolds , parking bad prices to high handicap facalities not good. go tu hope this will help

The 930 am in OKC seems to be for adults. The afternoon segment with Jack and Ron is pretty intelligent.
The FM side is a joke. Except for the morning guys. Now that is entertainment!

The Pcker is right. The Picker is always right. But the one thing The Picker forgot to mentinion is this...Nothing matters in this state as long as OU's football team is playing well. Once the bowl game is over people can get their lives back in order. Even the most die hard OSU fan still pays attention to OU football, if only to route against them. It's sad but true, the Gooners....oops, Sooners have a hold on this state like nothing else, and every high school, and college program in this state is always going to be second to them.

I disagree completely with the Pick-man. The wins definietely help the situation (5 in a row ain't bad), but the marketing of TU Basketball is nowhere near what it was 7 or 8 years ago. It seems like the admin and athletic dept is on auto-pilot in regards to hoops. But it goes much further... I do put some blame on the local alums and even on the pep band. Four games in a row without a single member of the band is unheard of, even during winter break. You could hear a pin drop in the RC last sunday, and we were puting on a great show on offense and defense. Let's hope that Coach Wojic's rant lights a fire under everybody, even the players. GO TU!

When does TU's season start?
Kenny (5 years ago)
Hey Bill, I guess everything matters, starting......NOW!!!!

Alpha Dog....It's easy to take a jab at TU but I'm telling you, Wojcik wouldn't have went on a rant, if he thought his team was headed in the wrong direction....
ALPHA DOG (5 years ago)
We will see how Coach Wojcik coaches in the GMAC Bowl this weekend, then we may show up the rest of the season. Hey, wait a minute, that is another TU team that did very well during the season and gets about as much following as Bill Land's career.
Kenny (5 years ago)
Alpha Dog, why do you feel the need to rip TU???? TU isn't Notre Dame, Texas, UCLA or even OU and they're not trying to be.....
If you care to mention, what school do you follow????
ALPHA DOG (5 years ago)
Kenny,
I played football for TU. I know the feeling of looking into the stands and seeing nobody there. I also know the feeling of looking on the field and seeing nobody there. I was recruited from the North. I had to look in Roget's to see where some of these bums were from that we were playing. Most coaches at TU have turned paper 10-2 schedules into 8-4 reality, then the University tries to tell you what a fabulous season you had......and as a reward, welcome to Mobile! Same with the basketball team, you have a whining coach asking where all the fans are, yet the product out on the court is a joke. You can only watch Bill Land Broadcasting School and West East Central Texas State so many times.... where is the competition??? By the way, how do you pronounce Wojcik?
Kenny (5 years ago)
Alpha Dog,
If you played at TU, then you should be on Wojcik's side here??? I just don't understand where your coming from, is it his fault or the universities????
After last nights win, I think the crowds may start coming back to the arena........How about you Alpha Dog????
