TU Ranking, Our Jack and Oklahomer

Three non-NFL thoughts on an NFL Sunday:
1, Would you keep Tulsa in the rankings? Maybe I'm just being territorial, but TU deserves to stick in the top 25 even though it lost to Arkanasas.
Why? The Hurricane outyarded an SEC team on the SEC team's homefield and held the Razorbacks without an offensive touchdown over the final three quarters. If any national folks want to dig a little deeper than the final score, they'll see that TU isn't a fraud. Teams from BCS conferences should have the guts to play in Tulsa, but that's probably not going to happen.
2, Does Tulsa have a Jack Nicholson? This was talked about on the radio the other day, but when the NBA staged an exhibition game here a few weeks ago, I looked courtside to see who would be sitting in the BOK Center's Jack Nicholson (west coast) or Spike Lee (east coast) seats.
I reached the conclusion that Tulsa probably does not have a Nicholson -- a celebrity figure who would be recognizeable at sporting events, especially if you toss out those with sports backgrounds.
Garth Brooks, perhaps, if he showed up at every sporting event staged at the BOK Center. Anyone care to nominate someone else for the Nicholson of Tulsa?
3, From the 'fessing up department: I intentionally misquoted NBA commissioner David Stern this week. He frequently pronounces (and Al Jerkens noticed this first) Oklahoma as "Oklahomer." He did so again when he took a midcourt microphone and welcomed "Oklahoma City, Oklahomer" to the NBA. I cleaned up the pronunciation and had him saying "Oklahoma" in Thursday's paper. I bet he doesn't mind.

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane are in control of their own destiny for the remainder of the season. Win out by going 11 -1 and they win the CUSA West. Win the CUSA Championship Game and they move to 12 -1. Topple an SEC team in the Liberty Bowl and they are in line for a top 15, maybe top 10 ranking. This week's drop in the polls is a blip on the radar. Golden Hurricane football will be a hot topic over the XMAS holiday season and top high character recruits will be eyeing the Golden Hurricane. Expect the Golden Hurricane 2009 recruiting class to be an eye popper and a top 20 ranking as the 2009 season kicks off.

If you cannot defeat a top 25 team, you do not belong in the Top 25. Pretty plain and simple.
Arkansas is not a top 25 team. TU was defeated. Therefore, they do not belong in the Top 25. That's not to say that they don't deserve another shot. But in order to climb back, I believe they have face, and beat, another top 25 team. Just my opinion.

Mike, you are wrong. Mike Strain has it right...please read his blog on why he votes the way he does.
As for Stern's pronounciation of Oklahoma...its a Northeast thing. Anything with an "a" at the end of the word is pronounced "er", i.e. pizza=pizzer, idea=idear, etc. And all words ending in "er" are pronounced ending in "uh", i.e. Worcester= Worcest-uh, Sister=Sist-uh, etc. Listen to anyone from Boston or New York and this is what you're likely to hear.

JT: Our Jack Nicholson? It couldn't be more obvious: the Hanson Brothers! Tim Blake Nelson! Bill Hader! Leon Russell! That guy that draws 'Bizarro' in the comics page!
