TU's Unfortunate Turn at UTEP
Published: 10/22/2009 1:57 PM

Here's the way you might think football would work.

You find out what you do best.

You have all spring to find out what makes the best sense based on talents. Then the players in individual workouts have all summer to perfect their most skillful maneuvers. Then you have all fall as a team to further your abilities so that you give yourself a fighting chance when a game is on the line.

Third and four with victory to be had versus UTEP.

What does TU do best?

It is not: Run into the middle of a stacked line.

TU scared the big time with multiple formation wide open football, a highly intelligent course of action because when you lack numbers, you can't play it straight and succeed.

Against UTEP, third and four, game on: failed rush into an over-populated line.

Another bad call was not using a time out late when UTEP was by the goal.

This suggestion: The TU quarterback needs to pass the football quicker.

Notes:

To determine how Bradford's decision not to go pro figured, subtract from $30 million what he winds up with.

The TU hoop team better have a dribbler.

In the light of the SEC zebras having made up a call that aided Florida, why hasn't Saint Tebow forfeited the victory?

Finally we won't have coach Coale to call overrated, will we.

Why can't defensive backs catch?

Tulsa never fails to disappoint us.

Man that was a brutal loss for Tulsa. I don't think 7-5 is good enough to get them bowling, and I'm afraid that's where they're headed.

Enough is enough. When are you media types gonna realize how stupid it looks for you to second guess play calling after the fact. Things happen in games, especially on the road. The guys at UTEP are on scholarship and they have good coaches too. TU is in the salad days in the history of the program, back off!

Mr Picker,
You forgot to mention the 3-man rushes that Tulsa was using on defense. That gave the UTEP QB too much time to throw the football. When you rush only 3-men, the QB will eventually find open WRs.

In regards to the TU offensive call on Third and about 2, TU was running the ball with only five blockers. UTEP had seven defensive guys up to stop the run. If you're gonna run the football in that situation, you need 7-8 guys blocking, not 5. If you only have 5 blockers, don't run the football. Instead, throw the football.

$30 milion? Why can't we subtract from $41.7 million? Even Sanchez's dough can top out at 50 mil.

dcood: Nobody is second-guessing anything. Back in July, it was written here that if TU didn't employ a wide-open offense, it would have to hurry to beat .500.

Saying a bad call is bad isn't second-guessing, it's observing. For the next time TU runs up the middle on third and four with the game virtually on the line: BAD CALL.

Hmm, I see you and John Klein have a difference of opinion on this according to his blog.

This sugggestion: Hire Gus back. Fewer Bad Calls.

***ATTENTION PICKER*** Would you like to back away from your absurd comments about Nebraska earlier this season? They looked HORRENDOUS. Their offense, in particular their QB, is an absolute joke.
OU_Glenn (3 years ago)
8 turnovers? Is John Blake coaching the Nebraska offense? Nebraska can play defense. However, their offense is a flat out embarrassment.

Dear Picker, thank you so much for your two part advice with your Thursday's "Picks", particularly your clincher:  "Go against idiots."  Since you, a bona fide idiot, successfully picked an astounding 2 out of 10 this Saturday against the spread, please let us know as soon as possible your forthcoming picks so we can choose the other teams and make a killing against, you guessed it, "you idiots!"

Sticking with your genious Neb. over OU lock, Picker?  That was a real edge of your seat game in Columbia too.  How long have you been doing this?  Not long enough, apparently.  Or maybe too long.
Steff M (3 years ago)
Obviously I'M no genius if I can't spell it.  At least I remembered the next day that it looked funny when I typed it and caught it before anyone else could rip me on it, especially the Picker.  Good thing it was on an old article that no one will ever go back to.  Well, except you of course.
