The Beauty of Baseball

There's nothing worse than regular season baseball.

To get past the third inning of a game in June, you have to have made a legal wager.

But nothing is better than playoff baseball.

It is the only sporting occasion during which every moment, every pitch, every call by a hard of seeing ump, from the first inning on, can mean something monumental.

The other night the Detroit pitcher was throwing 101 miles per hour in the seventh inning! He hit a batter in the ribs and the guy lived. The Texas game ended with a double play in which the third base man had one foot in foul territory almost in left field and rocketed a throw to the second baseman, who completed the turn in a flash.

Many thanks to the loyal fans who suffered through the numbing drone of the regular season.

The fair weather playoff fans will help take it home from here.

The Pick almost got it right again. The only thing better than playoff baseball is the World freaking Series.

I'm a fair weather playoff baseball fan, nothing passes the time better between football games in October....

From the 6th inning on, I'm pretty much almost really paying attention to what's going on....

The World Series, to me, seems to be anti-climatic because in the AL/NL playoffs, it's teams that know each other well & that creates rivalry showdown classics.... Last year, the Rangers lost the World Series BUT they beat those &@#^ Yankees !!!!

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
