The Bob Stoops Press Box

Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops is now tied with Bud Wilkinson and is closing in on Barry Switzer as the winningest coach in OU football history.
That’s pretty good company to be running with and Stoops knows it, even if he never thinks about it.
Stoops said on Saturday after a victory at Iowa State, when he tied Wilkinson’s win total, that he had no idea about it until a reporter told him.
Then, at his weekly press conference on Monday, he was asked about it again.
“Hopefully we’ve got more in me,” said Stoops. “We’ve been pretty fortunate for 13 1/2 years.”
Stoops, at age 52, doesn’t seem to tiring of the grind of being a college football head coach.
He admitted he has no idea how many more years he might coach.
However, Stoops does seem to be still very energized and excited about coaching.
Certainly, there are no or very few complaints from the Sooner Nation. OU remains among the nation’s elite football programs.
Stoops said he doesn’t have time to think about records or where he fits among coaching legends.
“I’m just trying to get to the next one,” he said.
There has been some talk of a statue for Stoops and even some discussion of a building on campus being named for him.
At the press conference, one writer suggested the Bob Stoops press box, a reference to Stoops’ often testy relationship with the media.
Stoops laughed and said, “That would be ironic, wouldn’t it?”

Too bad the win did not come against Notre Dame. A conspicuous win against a team that plainly has had OU's number, would go along way toward deifying Coach Stoops.
