What was Indiana thinking?
AP

Wednesday afternoon.

It appears that we have hit our first hoop blockbuster pick, as soon to be ex-Indiana coach Kelvin Sampson ran up a not so grand total of 55 points while losing last night.

The Butler did it.

Several blogs back, we predicted that Sampson would be this year's Buzzy Peterson -- the worst hire imaginable.

Media people around the state still love Sampson. Here's why. He buttered them up. What he did to the OU basketball program is sad.

It's true, the women will outdraw the OU men basketball team -- the women gymnasts.

The new OU basketball coach deserves a medal for bravery.

In related hoop business: Gabby Gottlieb was the only ESPN mouthpiece to stand up to Bobble Head Knight's rage against the TiVo machines.

By the way, if Bobble Head Knight is such a great coach, why doesn't he ever win a game?

Tonight it looks like Kansas 85, ORU 65.

Somebody said Bill Self has six NBA players on this year's team.

Wow. Maybe that means he'll get all the way to the Thrifty Thirty Two this time around.

Living in St Louis I've found that most people up here are either Mizzou fans or KU fans. And I'm here to tell you, they're none too pleased with Bill Self. He'd better impress somebody pretty quickly or he'll have ruined his reputation a la Franchione, if he hasn't already.

Has our Picker friend given up on football or is he trying to distract us?

Stop being an animal about this.

It's only Wednesday.

We'll tackle football on the morrow.

Huh? What? Sorry, the moon must be full.

Mr. Picker,
Department of Redundancy Department

In the total time that you have been doing your column have you ever said anything nice about a coach who left an in-state institution to ply his trade elsewhere?

Your prediction on ORU tonight is a little off. Coach Self will want to show ORU what its like to play basketball at a real school. Kansas 85 - ORU 50

Gene Gene the Picking Machine:

The ones we don't like are the ones who cheat and dump the program; and the ones who accept credit for much, much more than they have done.

Humble, honest coaches, we like.

Know any?

Bill Self is a good coach, not a great coach. A great coach would have at least 2 or 3 Final Four banners hanging in the Phog with the talent that has come thru Lawrence. He has won 2 of 3 Big 12 crowns, but I think it's arguable that Texas has equaled KU in hoops, especially in the post season. With the retirement of Sutton Sr., Barnes is now the top Big 12 coach hands down.

ORU is too talented to lose by 35 tonight. It should be close for 30 minutes, then KU wins by 12.

The OU women should outdraw men regardless of the quality on the floor. Have you seen coach Coale in person wearing those business skirts? If I didn't live 3 hours away, I'd have season tix.

On the past blog, John wrote that Ohio St. would win by double digits. After doing some research and thinking hard, I'm now officially wavering on that game. I can see a scenario where OSU wins by double digits, but I can't see Michigan winning by more than a FG. The line is also a bit bigger than I expected, so I think the boys running the Vegas malls like the Buckeyes.

Kelvin put it to the Sooners pretty good. He broke the rules himself, then bailed. No excuse for that. I now have one more reason to dislike the Hoosiers (besides the condescensding a$$ that used to coach there).

OK picker, I'll bite. Coach Stoops is as humble as they come. Honest? Well, he is to the players. They know what it takes to hit the field, and what will happen if they don't produce. I like his no nonsense approach and the fire he brings to the sideline.

Oh my goodness. ORU leads the mighty Jayhawks by 10 with 6 and a half minutes to play. Wow.
Jeremy (6 years ago)
Incredible.

ORU 78, Kansas 71.

Obviously, great coaching runs in the Sutton family. I wonder how long ORU will be able to hold on to Scott.

You'd think Bill Self would have had the 'Hawks ready for his old team. I guess they are saving it for the big tourney...

When I checked my picks against the picker this morning, I noticed one discrepancy. The Picker chose his Auburn vs. Alabama game with Bama favored by 3, and picked the Crimson Tide to win by one, therefore choosing Auburn and the points. When I made my picks, I chose Auburn to cover th spread, but the spread when I chose was Auburn by 3. How is this figured? Do both spreads apply, depending on when you picked the game? For example, if Bama does actually win by one, and both the Picker and I have chosen Auburn, which spread is used? Does the Picker win and I lose? Please shed some light on this.

ORU 78, KU 71? Sounds like the Picker needs to steam-clean his crystal ball...

Matt: You're right, something got switched in the translation.

The number that is good is the contest number on the entry form. Auburn minus 3. So we have Alabama plus 3.

Good eye on your part.

Thanks.
