The "New" Sooners?

Have OU fans become content with winning just enough?

Finish 10-2, 9-3.

Catch a Thunder game.

Notch a secondary bowl win. Boomer Sooner. Pass the channel changer. Let's root against the SEC.

There's a lot worse than winning just enough. There's stuff like Auburn. Arkansas. Tennessee. Miami. Missouri. The memories of John Blake and coach Howie.

Some pretty decent places win just enough. Nebraska. USC. Michigan. Georgia. Florida. Florida State.

Medium Game Bob seems to have settled into a comfy routine. Stomp Texas. Dispatch OSU when it doesn't have a freak of nature at quarterback or receiver. Lose to only the very best.

The only problem with winning just enough is that it's not that big a slide to losing too much.

Pick, you are going to upset Emperor Stoops by calling him a comfortable coach by losing 2 or 3 games. The Supreme Being, Boren, will not like it either. You can not be that truthful with the all knowing.

You can count on Stoops to go 8-3 to 10-1 year after year. I do not see a National Champ anytime soon. JMO

The OU Football Monster is getting hungry again.

I still think that the defense is better under Mike Stoops than it was under Venables, but it is going to take a major change on the offensive side of the ball before OU can get back to competing for national championships. Bear Bryant had some down years in the late 60s at Alabama, but he dominated the 70s after they switched to the wishbone. It will take a similar change for OU to become a national contender again.

OU will not win another national championship under Bob Stoops. He's got a staff full of coaches who wouldn't be hired at their level by any other top-10 program. They can't game-plan effectively and they can't make adjustments when their game plans turn out to be worthless.
