Here's what you won't get to see when the 2007 PGA Championship tees off this week at Southern Hills: A Swedish redneck.
Carl Pettersson of Sweden withdrew from the tournament so that he could spend some quality time with his wife and a newborn child.
Having never seen a Swedish redneck before, I was looking forward to the experience. Jesper Parnevik first dubbed the snuff-dipping Pettersson a Swedish redneck four years ago.
Petterson was born in Sweden, but moved to North Carolina when he was a teen-ager and that's apparently when his neck started getting crimson.
Hey, Carl. Congrats on the new kid. We'll miss you.

Tulsa World sports writer Jimmie Tramel is a former class president at Locust Grove High School. He graduated magna cum laude from Northeastern State University with a journalism degree and, while attending college, was sports editor of the Pryor Daily Times. He joined the Tulsa World on Oct. 17, 1989, the same day an earthquake struck the World Series. He is the OSU basketball beat writer and a columnist and feature writer during football season. In 2007, he wrote a book about Oklahoma State football with former Cowboy coach Pat Jones.
