"Definitely gonna be a rough day," Brennan Clay tweeted early this morning.
"A gloomy day in Oklahoma," tweeted Corey Nelson. "Headed to my boy Austin's funeral."
Clay and Nelson will join Oklahoma players and coaches in Enid later this morning to pay their respects to their late teammate, Austin Box.
I received an email from Quinton Carter, the OU safety who played with Box the past four years, earlier this week. I don't think he would mind if I shared a passage today…
"First of all, let me say that Austin was a wonderful teammate and an even better person. The key word that is used when describing Austin Box is competitor. He was an outstanding teammate first and a wonderful person…
"It is a shock to all of the Sooner Nation, but it is an opportunity for us to bond and appreciate each other and those special moments on and off the field."
Being around each other at the funeral and remembering Box together should help the Sooners can get through a day much more difficult and personal than anything from a season.
