Since this has been a Texas Tech week like no other, it's only fair that we end it with Mike Leach. Or, actually, with Randy Riggs of the Austin American-Statesman, who pulled a couple terrific quotes out of the Red Raiders' coach for his recent story.
The first pertains to the "interview" (you be the judge) Bob Stoops gave Leach after he had been hired at Oklahoma and needed an offensive coordinator.
Leach told Riggs, "It went like this. He goes, 'Hey, Mike. This is Bob. I got this thing at Oklahoma. What do you think about coming here to be offensive coordinator?'
"It was the shortest, best interview I've ever had."
Riggs ends his story with the following:
"The thing most people don't understand about Bob is what a great guy he is to work for," Leach said. "Most head coaches love to talk. It's just their nature. But with him, it's not like he's Mr. Chairman of the Board or anything. He's unique because he's a listener. He's interested in what others on the staff have to offer.
"He taught me that. So I'll listen — up to a point. But pretty soon, I'll tell them all to shut up because I like to talk."
