The Worst Basketball Game Ever

Jaye Crockett dunks against OU. ZACH LONG/Lubbock Avalanche-Journal/AP
One of the worst performances ever in major college basketball history took place Saturday. By ever we mean ever.
It was OU's performance against Texas Tech.
The game was at Tech, which had an 0-11 conference record. A thousand or two people appeared to be on hand.
OU scored 47 points in losing to the horrible Tech team 65-47. Tech looked like a bad YMCA lunch-time business-person's team.
On Saturday, about 120 teams played college basketball. Only three of these teams scored fewer than 47 points.
OU shot 32 percent from the field. A pee wee team could shoot 32 percent from the field.
The Sooners quit early and kept quitting. There was no effort whatsoever anywhere on the floor. Players stood around complaining at one another.
It was a disgraceful representation of the University of Oklahoma. The coach should suspend the whole team and let frat guys play the next game. At the very least, this OU team should play in unmarked gym clothes. They don't deserve to have OU anywhere on their gear.

Wow. Quite a condemnation. You and I have run the gamut over the past couple of years engaging in creative criticism regarding the lazy, crony-loving, featherbedding Sooner coaching staff. The way the local sports media grovels in the presence of Lord Stoops reminds me of how the boas, without predators, are propagating in South Florida. But today's blog represents one of your most virulent attacks yet. Although, being in St. Louis, I don't have the opportunity to follow Sooner basketball closely, it had seemed to me that Kruger had them playing as well as might be expected given their limitations. Evidently, I was wrong. Sad commentary.

Bjorn, it was like watching a bad practice. Once you had it on the screen, you couldn't turn it off. Would the next shot hit anything? Would OU score 40? Would the coach fire the whole team on the spot? No team in OU history has ever quit so completely.

WGS, that's exactly the most surprising thing about it. Kruger seemed to have them hitting the rim with regularity, even knocking a few through.
You notice the OU football team figures to be at West Virginia and at TCU right off next year?
At West Virginia will be one for the anthropology department.

Jeff Capel appears to have pulled a John Whathisname on OU, that's sad....
You really have to appreciate Blake Griffins talent now....

Loved your suggestion to award half a point if the ball hits the backboard. I'll be stealing that line, I promise.
Regarding OU's upcoming football schedule. The TCU froggies were terrific in the fifties, then they hibernated for over thirty years before rising again to respectability. Playing in Ft. Worth could help recruiting if...a) OU wins, and b) OU ever decides to emphasize recruiting Texas players again. Traveling to Morgantown, on the other hand, is an act of scheduling desperation implemented by a conference struggling for survivial. Not smart by any stretch.

This goes well with OU's football team loss to OSU!

That actually sounds kind of fun to watch, like a movie so bad that it's funny.

Only a moron couldn't have won with that guy- he is/was a force.

Considering the circumstances, has to be one of the worst losses in OU BBall history. This team should be ashamed of itself. To think the great Wayman Tisdale shared the same jersey with this rabble...

Maybe OC Douglass would have been more competitive than OU.
