What are the odds that Tulsa and OSU would give up 17-point leads on the same day?
The Golden Hurricane and Cowboys suffered come-from-ahead losses on Saturday. I was a columnist at the TU-SMU game and, in the midst of wild reversal of fortunes, I had to switch gears completely.
At halftime, TU led SMU 24-7. At that point, I was doing Internet research for a possible feature column on receiver Idris Moss, who finished with 13 receptions for 120 yards and his first touchdown catch this season. I found out that his father, Rick, is the curator of an African-American museum and library in California. I also found out that, after Idris left UCLA, he committed to Hawaii before signing with Tulsa.
I didn't even keep track of play by play early in the second half because I was convinced there was no way TU could lose. I was wrong.
SMU came charging back with 27 unanswered points and I had to throw the Moss column idea away because a happy feature column about a player didn't seem to fit the occasion.
Sorry, Idris. Maybe next time.
