There Should be a Quarterback Controversy at OSU
Published: 10/1/2012 4:11 PM

Who knows what happened on the last play. You couldn't tell on TV. The Texas runner could have broken the plane, then fumbled, or he could have fumbled en route. It wasn't explained well, that's for sure.

It shouldn't have gotten to that point: Fourth and seven. Make a play. Stop Texas. There's your football game. They're going to pass for crying out loud. Make a defensive play. OU and OSU sound like the same beaten teams: We played good for three quarters, waaaaa, poor us.

Be quiet and make a play and win the stupid game.

The best player on the field was OSU quarterback Walsh. That's right, he was better than the Tex quarterback, who isn't half bad at all. So if OSU doesn't have a quarterback controversy, it should win something like a national title very soon.

So who do you play, the good arm who got hurt, or the mobile guy who ran and threw Texas off the field?

QB with a bum knee, guy who lost to Arizona, week off then KU, why not stay with the hot hand? And feet?

There's a reason Lunt was named the starter over Walsh to begin with. What Walsh's performance against Texas means is they won't worry about how much more time Lunt will need to recover from his injury. If Walsh was better, he would have been the Pokes starter at the beginning of the season. Looks to me like OSU is in good shape at QB, at least for the remainder of this season.

That Walsh kid is special. If he stays healthy he's the future of the offense down there.
But...
You'd think that somebody in the Big 12 could manage to put together a respectable defense for a change.

Randle was the best player on the field, dude was a man among boys.

The only way you can tell who is better is via hard competition.

Walsh has been better.

Don't bad knees make players reluctant?

Randle was fine. Made better because Texas was lined up wrong all night.

I keep hearing that Walsh is the kind of player who starts to shine when the pressure is on during a game, not in practice. That being said, I think he now has an edge on Lunt that will make it very difficult for Lunt to get back into the lineup this year.

OSU is fine on the offensive side of the ball. The defense? That's a whole different story. The teams that compete for the national championship (or even the conference title) play great defense in the 4th quarter. OSU is the antithesis of great defense thus far.

Teams that win titles play great defense EVERY quarter.

Texas over WV this week will put this contest in perspective. At least that's what the odds makers are saying. I don't see Texas beating WV or hanging 4 quarters with the WV offense. They didn't do that great a job on us POKES and they were lucky to get out of Stillwater with a W. The ???'s may remain for the Cowtown faithful, but the look in the eyes of the players as they came off the field tells me we're going to be OK at some point. Let's hope it all comes together against the Jayhawks and we can put it on automatic pilot like last year.

There is no chance that Mike will allow Lunt to lose his job while injured. If Lunt is healthy, he will start. However, if he doesn't perform, Walsh will be in the game. Walsh can earn the starting position once Lunt is healthy and playing.

Why not play the person who is playing the best?

I'm voting Walsh for 2012.

Once again, Gundy chose the wrong QB.... remember, Weeden was sittin' on the bench.
