Think Big

With the NBA draft up next, all anybody says is: get a guard, get a guard, get a guard, a great guard is the secret to pro basketball, the Bulls should draft Rose.

Guess what, this isn't March Madness.

This isn't college amateur hour.

This is June Judo, the violent world of the NBA.

Let's see, do the Boston Celtics have a great guard?

Nope.

Do the Celtics have a fair guard?

Barely.

Do the Los Angeles Fakers have a great guard?

Nope.

Chris Paul confused everybody, dribbling up one side and down the other in New Orleans. Before going out with a whimper.

Anybody with a brain knows big is best, Beasley would be far and away the smartest number one draft pick.

I don't think the Bulls can go wrong with either one. Beasley could end up being Charles Barkley or Anthony Mason -- the Bulls measured him at 6'7 and that's kind of iffy for his spot in the NBA. There is a a really interesting article on ESPN dot com Insider about how Beasley has really unique stats that project well in the NBA (basically he's the best big in six years). The Bulls desperately need an inside scorer. But here is where I disagree with you, dear Picker. The NBA has changed the rules in the last couple of years to prevent hand checking on the perimeter and that has brought the point guard back in style. Deron Williams and Chris Paul have made their respective teams competitive as a result. Rose has potential to be better than either one -- he has unbelievable athleticism (I've seen him play in person three times). I think Rose is more of a gamble, but he could be a dynasty creating player. Take him and then shop Heinrich and Tyrus Thomas for a servicable big taller than 6'7. I don't think they can go wrong with either one, but Rose could be really special while Beasley will be a hit or miss kind of player in the NBA and probably routinely abused by the like of Garnett.

Picker, sure, the Hornets went out before they could get to the conference finals but would they have even gotten there without Chris Paul? On top of that, do you think that the Spurs would have a had a chance of beating them without Tony Parker? Doubtful (Even with The Big Fundamental). The Lakers and Celtics both got to where they were because they had unbelieveable talents on their team--not necessarily big men. If either of those teams had a guard like Paul or the incoming Rose, they would have swept through the playoffs in a breeze.

You don't think the Lakers have a great guard? You don't think Kobe Bryant's a great guard? Are you retarded?
Who cares about his off-court problems, or his whiny attitude. On the court, he's the best guard in the world.
