Third Quarter Set Tone for Notre Dame Win

Everything you needed to know about Oklahoma’s 30-13 loss to Notre Dame happened in the third quarter.
Although the game was decided in the fourth quarter, the tone of the game was illustrated best in the third quarter.
There was no scoring in the third quarter but Notre Dame held the ball 12 of the 15 minutes.
The Sooners got one brief possession and had to punt. Notre Dame owned the third with drives of 13 plays (missed field goal) and another 13 plays that resulted in a field goal early in the fourth quarter for a 13-6 Notre Dame lead.
That was the type of game it was for OU. Notre Dame’s defense dominated, especially up front.
Plus, the Irish made all the plays late to win this game.
“They made the key plays down the stretch to win the game,” said OU coach Bob Stoops.
Yes, they did. After OU tied the game at 13-13, Notre Dame came right back to score and make it 20-13. Then, Manti Te’o, the best player in thie game, intercepted a tipped pass that sealed the game. It led to a field goal and then Notre Dame pushed across a late touchdown to make it a 30-13 game.
“We just needed to be a few plays better,” said Stoops.
