The officials who worked the OU-OSU basketball game Saturday should be suspended. They called so many fouls, the zebras became the story, not the teams. Calling games so punatively is a disservice to the teams, as tournament games are know for their looseness.

One of the best bits of business Super Bowl Sunday was Bill O'Reilly interviewing President Obama. It took place about an hour before pure football coverage took over. Neither person was rude or backed down. It was a revealing look at both of them.

Sam Elliott's calling of the teams to vittles, or to the field, was cornpone slop.

The entertainment was horrific. The national anthem woman should have lipsynced it. Imagine the unwanted noise of an Christina Aguilera-Mariah Carey duet. The sound was Pea soup for the overly long halftime show. Who could hear Fergie. Is this group out of commercial rhymes? Who needs a halftime show, anyway.

The commercials were depressingly bad. The Doritos spot about licking another's fingers was disgusting. The only spot worth a laugh was the Chevy commercial making fun of the fact that seniors can't hear. Nice selling point, catering to people who shouldn't be driving. Darth Vader Jr. was nice, the upbeat Detroit promo, slick. Joan Rivers in short shorts? Uncle. And how about those movie promos, nothing but supernatural junk, "Cowboys and Aliens," that one is all yours.

The Etrade kid appears to be outgrowing his cuteness.

As for the game itself, how many people were on the sidelines, 10,000?

The least valulable player was Showboat Polamalu, frequently seen flailing along behind receivers who had beaten him into submission.

What was all the slipping about?

Green Bay did much to eliminate injuries as an excuse for not performing. What amounted to its second team beat the Steelers.

The key play in the game was the third and ten pass completed by the Green Bay quarterback late in the game. It was a bolt of lightning one inch past a defender's hand, complete to a speeding receiver.

Strike at your own risk, fellows. Nobody is in the mood for spoiled sports.

I agree on all counts, no argument here.

Several plays could qualify as key:fumble at midfield,Steelers passing on 3rd&2 and failing after they had Packers on their heels running the ball, but I agree that was a laser shot so will agree. I did my chores at halftime so missed the pea soup. Looking forward to seeing the Pack back in SB XLVI...hope there's a season.

The Picker pretty much sums it all up.

I thought the NFL montage video was kind of interesting in a relatively weak showing of commercials this year.

For an artificial surface field, it was atrocious and seemingly hard as there seemed to be an abnormal amount of hitting the turf injuries.

As for officiating, you obviously didn't take in the TU/Houston game on Saturday afternoon where it was clear the spray on tan ref was there to be in the limelight. When the other refs on the crew start shaking their heads in amazement that the call(s) you just made were that bad, its time to hang up the whistle. It went both ways too...the offensive push off call against the Houston guard was so terrible, that even TU fans (while thankful it was made) asked each other what or why it was called. The atrociousness of the call was confirmed on replay.

Justin Hurtt is really freaking good.

Best commercial: Eminem Chrysler ad (especially after it followed the Eminem "This is why I don't do commercials" Lipton Iced Tea ad). Worst commercial: Doritos and the licking of the pants. That was pretty terrible.

M&M Fiat add you mean? How many bottles of wine does it take to make a Chrysler/Fiat?
bjorn2run (2 years ago)
and what about the 'coat of many colors' field? Was it my tv, or did it seem the field was made up of different strips of turf and grass textures that didn't seem to blend too well? Not too impressive for a Super Bowl field......b2r

Picker, there won't be a strike. The owners are planning on a lock-out. The party line is that they have spent umpteen kazillions on new stadiums and the players should absorb the cost, although not a single player was consulted on the necessity of building a single stadium.
Thunder196 (2 years ago)
Have to admit the commercials seemed to be in a competition as to who could get the most thumbs down.
dcood (2 years ago)
ig: there you go, let's consult a bunch of meathead football players, most of whom dont even have their degrees, on huge business decisions like building stadiums. These chump players owe all their millions to the owners, period. If the NFL ends tomorrow, the owners will continue to play golf at Augusta Ntl and travel in their own jets...the players will be luggin the owners' luggage onto that private jet and watchin it takeoff as they head to the breakroom for a bag of doritos. The players need to cool it.
Don's World (2 years ago)
No dcood you need to cool it. You kiss all big business backside with that mouth? Your the same kind of guy who apologizes to BP for THEIR oil spill. Oh yea the players are LUCKY to have a job. So are coal miners, truck drivers, they ALL need to cool it. They owe ALL to the owners. My father and grandfathers were known as the greatest generation. Ours? The weakest generation. Bow and scrape boys, beg for scraps from masters table!
Trust the owners to treat you fairly boys. Oh I'm sure they will. Ask Johnny Unitas. Mel Ott. Or the other couple of hundred players that literally can't remember their own names. Here is a lesson your daddy should have taught you Dcood...don't mess into others business and way they earn a living. They will do what is best for their family, and you do what you think is best for yours. Which I am sure involves lots of lipstick and corporate backside.
LaffALot (2 years ago)
Players “choose’ to play a game, owners organize the cattle that best suits their own team. Players feel they are not being treated fairly? Long term injury consequences for the players? The can quit anytime, but do they want to run out on an avg. 1.2 million yrly salary?
Plus teams treat players like royalty, the best in athletic training, equipment, medical care, food, travel, and assorted amenities including endorsements and public goodwill. Its all given to them for the privilege to play on Sunday’s.

What would happen IF the Super Bowl went back to marching bands @ half time & some military personal playing a bugle for the nat’l anthem?

Every play is magnified in the Super Bowl. Big Ben took a beating & obviously was rushed & out of sync on Pitts last possession.

Snicker is right, GB had several 2nd team players playing key roles. What happens when GB starters are back? Could GB be the first NFC team to repeat or least go to back to back Super Bowls since, well, when GB did it back in the 90’s.
ken7 (2 years ago)
Don't mean to be rude, but NFC teams Dallas and San Francisco both have won back to back Super Bowels since Green Bay.
ken7 (2 years ago)
Laffalot, ignore my dumbness. I didn't read your post right. Green Bay is the last to go to repeat Super Bowels... sorry
claremoron (2 years ago)
Total agreement on the game as well as the"entertainment". I really enjoyed the President Obama / O'Reilly interview, I thought it was respectful, pertinent and substantial. It was refreshing.
MexiMike (2 years ago)
The Big 12 refs are really getting out of hand. Their power trips are making it almost unbearable to watch these games.

That Bedlam game was close and should have been exciting but neither team could build momentum due to a whistle being blown every two seconds.

How can officiating be so blatantly different from conference to conference? If UConn and Georgetown were the teams that played in Stillwater that day, would there have been enough players left to finish the game?

As far as the Superbowl goes, the game was great...everything else, pretty bad to awful. I was actually pretty excited to see Christina Aguilera sing the national anthem because she does have some pipes. Unfortunately, she decided to fill all the lyrics she forgot with "ooOOoooAAAooaaaOOOOooooAAAA.....etc."

Claremoron...great name.
jhpoke (2 years ago)
Bill O'Reilly was not respectful. He must of interrupted the president at least 20 times. Worst interview I can remember. Bill O'Reilly should have a conversation with Chris Matthews It would sound like howler monkeys.
The Picker (2 years ago)
This could be an interesting thought about the Super Bowl and the Green Bay quarterback's greatness, and the Steelers' decline.

Had one of dozens of plays gone another way, the Steelers are a dynasty, and Green Bay is a pretender.

The game was that close.

TU could actually win its conference in basketball.

Does that say more about TU or its conference?
senor notas (2 years ago)
Two seconds into the 'National Anthem' and I was gone, didn't watch the Blackeyes take a 'P' either. So much hype, so little substance. They make such a big deal of honoring servicemen and women why don't they have a group from one of the service branches do th National Anthem? The Singing Sergeants, the Navy Blue Jacket Choir, the West Point or Naval Academy Choir? Anything but the trash that people with no talent try to sing the National Anthem.
Ignatz (2 years ago)
senor, because so many people felt "inspired" when Bobby Brown's crack hoe wife voice-synched the thing by screeching at the top of her lungs umpteen years ago. For some reason the NFL thinks that should be "topped." There is no accounting for taste.
OSUNDN (2 years ago)
Leslie Neilson did a better job singing the National Anthem as the tenor in the Naked Gun movie. As far as an owner lockout, strike, whatever, these players make millions a year and only have to spend their own money while out of training camp. Jeez, you'd think they were school teachers working only 9 months out of the year. How the hell do these idiots go broke after retirement? What? are they all punch drunk like Mike Tyson???
rogerq (2 years ago)
As one of those servicemen "honored", I'd like to say this: the National Anthem is written to be played and sung a certain way. To add your own interpretation is a dishonor and shows disrespect for not doing it the way it was intended. That rendition made me sick, even before she missed a line. It is horrible what people do in the name of entertainment. should the singers fly their own interpretation of the flag too? No, you can't do that, it is our national flag, it is designed a certain way, just as the song is our National Anthem, written to be performed a certain way. It is not opent to interpretation.
MexiMike (2 years ago)
"Should the singers fly their own interpretation of the flag too?"

Easy Rogerq, you're about to make a lot of Sooner fans upset.
