1. Texas won't stink long.

Numerous media homers continue to laugh at Texas as though last year will be like this year.

It's possible, but unlikely.

College ball is a quarterback's game, pure and simple. No great qb, no great team. The quarterback Texas used last year simply can't play the game well enough on the elite level. He doesn't move quickly. He passes footballs to the wrong team. If he is the man, Texas is in big trouble.

But: McCoy's brother is a player. He is mobile and appears extremely competitive and throws it to his players. He could put Texas back in the national picture overnight.

2. Has the Shock had it?

It's early to pull the plug. But the losses are piling up. Interest is fading.

Is gradual improvement enough to save the franchise?

3. Stoops and all those conference titles.

This year, beyond OU and OSU, is there a team in the top 30?

Outside of two great quarterbacks, Heupel and Vince Young, has the conference been overrated forever?

Any coach in the country would trade records with stoops any day! Eric Crouch, Jason White and Sam Bradford are great quarterbacks that won heisman trophys. In case you forgot they give the heisman to the most outstanding football player in college football. "He who throws mud, only loses ground!"...Fat Albert. The Picker sure loses alot of ground!

Ummmm... Pick... Did you forget about a certain Number 1 draft pick named Sam Bradford? How about a starting QB in Cleveland named Colt McCoy? The Big XII has produced a few more more "great QBs" than Heup and Young...

Hey they cranked out Mike Gundy- he's a stud.

It's the dawn of a new age, there ain't no Big 12 anymore, it's now the ????, is there a new conference name yet or is it still the Big 12 ????

Anyway, before I got sidetracked....

It's the dawn of a new age, ain't no Big 12 anymore, toss out the old record books & start a new one, the past is the past & people around these here parts are only concerned about today & tomorrow !!!!

Who & who don't matter anymore, it's all about what's out there now !!!!

1. The QB is the most important position in football. I watched the Texas-Iowa State game last season and Sunny Boy Gilbert had no clue what he was doing. Pick, didn't you say going into last season how much of a stud Gilbert was at QB?

2. The Shock need to keep Nolan Richardson as the head coach and hire a separate General Manager. Doubling as a coach and GM hasn't worked for Nolan.

3. Texas A&M will most likely be ranked in the top 10 to start the season. Mizzou is a top 25 (maybe top 20) team. Texas also should be in the top 30 this season. The greatest college QBs are the ones that lead their teams to the national title. However, that doesn't mean that they continue their success at the NFL level. What about Scott Frost? Should he be ranked up there with Josh and Vince?

Working as coach hasn't worked for Nolan either....

I wish I knew more about the current events of college football, but I don't, I wonder where this kind up-to-date info could be found ????

The Hugo Daily News sports section lacks coverage of anything beyond the high school level(go Buffalos, Red Bears & Scorpions !!!!), ain't no other paper delivered down around here....

Half the stories on this website are truncated OKC articles & to read the rest of the story you gotta go to oknews, which is free.... So paying a high fee to read halfway regurgitated Daily Oklahoman news isn't to appealing.... I gues going straight to the Daily Oklahoman site is the only answer but I do wish there was another....

Texas will be better this year...but they won't be "back." Besides having questions at QB, they also replace coordinators on both sides of the ball and with that comes changed philosophies. I've got them winning 7 or 8 games.

I have nothing to say about professional women's basketball.

Besides OU and OSU, A&M deserves to be in the top 25. I don't know if I can say the same about Mizzou just yet. Replacing a QB is always a tough thing to do. While it is possible to continue to thrive with a brand new guy taking snaps, it is also just as possible to flounder.

The big 12 is still the big 12, it just has 10 teams. Just like the big 10 has had 11 teams for years. Big 12 will have several teams in top 30, ou, osu, TT, Tam, TX, Ksu, and mizzou. will all make appearances in the top 25 this yr.

Our Big 12 conference only has 10 teams but a couple of the squads are sooooo good that they play twice as good as anybody else, hence, the BIG 12 conference still exists !!!!

Seriously, how can anyone that a COLLEGE system that can't count how many teams they got & then label them correctly....

Do they not have the capability between 10 UNIVERSITIES to get someone who has the ability, knowledge, or IMAGINATION to name a conference with 10 teams ????

I can understand the conference up north because they quite possibly have permanent brain-freeze, but does that mean a conference down south has to copy them ????

Doesn't any of the TEN(10) COLLEGES in the BIG TWELVE(12) offer courses in MARKETING ????

Now really, how can anyone seriously follow a COLLEGE system....

THE SLOCHK WILL NEVER IMPROVE WITHOUT A COACH WHO KNOWS HOW TO COACH WOMEN'S BASKETBALL. FOUR MINUTES OF HELL ISNT WORKING ! HELLO ?

all the shock need is one great player like durant at okc........great players make great coaches and i believe most great coaches would acknowledge that.

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
