Thunder Blunders, Part II
Published:

First off, the little league media should be ashamed of itself for what it has done to guard Westbrook, which was harp on him after the OKC team lost a game at Denver, no big deal.
OKC hustles up a terrific team, and overnight the local media thinks it is suddenly big time as well: Guy has an off game, get all over him. The point is, Westbrook is a kid, his wildness is what got the Thunder where it was. Since the silly criticism, Westbrook looks like a different player, nervous, tense, not fun-loving.
Next, as suggested here, the boy genius GM has some explaining to do. One, OKC blew a number one draft pick on the KU guy. Two, it traded for a player who is barely 50 percent of his old self. Perkins this week admitted he is 65 percent healthy. Nice trade?
All is not lost.
The media needs to quit pretening it knows NBA hoops. Perkins needs to be well before he plays.

Danny Ainge has to be grinning like a cheese-eatin possum because you know he knew Perkins was gimp, and Nate Robinson wouldn't even sniff the court this late in a playoff season. Kristic and Green haven't been world beaters in Beantown, but so far the edge goes to the Celtics front office on this trade.
The Lakers peaked on their long winning streak after the All-Star break. They look like circus elephants now, old and slow. Phil will have to settle for 12 NBA titles (six with the Bulls, five with the Lakers, one as a player with the Knicks)but he does get to keep Jerry Buss's daughter, Jeannie...and of course those rings.
Tell-tale sign the Thunder are in HUGE trouble: TEN points in the fourth quarter in Memphis Saturday, the Grizzlies can play defense...especially when the Thunder stand around waiting on each other to rotate and screen.

If Westbrook can't take the criticism maybe he needs to go back to LA where they can try to baby him.
Childish immaturity can hurt you a lot more than it can help.

Sure looks like Sports Illustrated, ESPN, CBS Sports and the other "little" league media needs to rethink its criticism of Westbrook.
Picker, You are a joke. Glad you came back to talking about OKC. Perkins was a great trade and made our team better. Perk is locked up for the long term and will only get healthier.
Presti made a mistake with aldrich but he was the best big man availalbe and that was the need of our team. Presti's track record speaks for itself. Ibaka was a steal, the westbrook move looks like pure genious as well.
Westbrook deserves the criticism. He looks lost late in the game. It is inexusible that we did not make one pass in 4 of our last 5 possesions against Memphis. That is the trigger man's fault. He can't get all the credit for being great when he puts up big numbers and avoid criticism when he doens't.
The Thunder will win in 6. We dominated the majority of game 3 and it looks as though we have been successful limiting randolph and gasol.
Any one else find it funny the cartoon character from the minor league market is questioning other media members knowledge of the NBA?
Is it arena football time yet?

well -- Westbrook has seemed like a great kid during his stay in OKC -- his skills are pretty impressive and his upside is amazing --- he may develop into one of the best if not the best guard in the history of the NBA -- he and Rose are a new breed of point guard -- I am sure he will spend more time practicing his shooting to improve his percentages -- he is still very young -- he will develop thicker skin -- when an Icon like Mr Charle starts taking shots at guys it can be very difficult and demoralizing -- as for the last game -- it was amazing Mr Randolf wasn't removed after he threw down a Thunder player -- I think the league should review the play and suspend him for a game or two -- Memphis started their comeback at about the time of the incident -- sure the Thunder went and hid after it -- IMO it was a game changer -- yesterday we saw were tempers lead on the court -- it will be interesting to see how the Thunder handle this kind of pressure

Westbrook is not the problem, it's the coaching....
When you give the PG one(1) option (pass to KD) in the final few minutes of the game, the other team can figure that out & double & triple team KD forcing Russell to get his own shot....
Russell doesn't help by walking the ball up the court watching his teammates set up(that can be fixed), but 3 on one side with KD & Russ on the other in a Double Diva style offense that the coach demands, can easily be defensed....
On offense Thabo can't shoot & neither can Perk, SERGE has to be in position to succeed when he receives a pass....
The OKC HEAD COACH either refuses to or he doesn't have the ability to adapt his team to the situation at hand in a crucial moment of a game....
Russell Westbrook is a STAR & he will only get better, KD is a STAR & he will only get better, the OKC Squad is young they still haven't peaked as a team yet....
Problem is.... Has their coach reached his mountaintop ???? He has all this talent & pieces to put together on a basketball court but he rigidly insists on putting two guys who can't score on the court at the same time in CRUNCH TIME....
Why does OKC struggle to score at the beginning of games & they always start slow after the halftime break ???? BECAUSE they play 3 against 5 on OFFENSE !!!! Having one(1) defensive specialist on the court who can't score is acceptable & possibly wise BUT two(2) at the same time can be crippling to success....

What Big Perk offers at 65% is 60% more than what the Skinny Boy & Big Tall Woman ever contributed to the team....
Big Perk serves up attitude, toughness & freedom for SERGE IBAKA to become a fulltime Congo Flyer.... Re-watch the play where SERGE went down & tell me what Big Perk was doing....
If I was talking to the press about my injury, I'd be sitting in a wheelchair bandaged up & packed down with ice with a couple nurses stationed nearby....

Hit the nail on the head with this one Pick. The kid is 22. Never before have I seen a guy averaging 26.5 ppg catch more grief than Westbrook and the OKC media continues to show their backside with their schizoprhenic coverage of the Thunder. But I think I said all this last week but the Pick does say it better...BTW, what was Westbrook supposed to do? I watched the game and KD stood there and allowed himself to be guarded by Allen, never ran off any screens, etc. Looked to be pouting a little. Brooks biggest mistake was not leaving Harden in. We couldnt hit the side of a barn and he puts Sefolosha in for Harden? Harden's defense is plenty good.

Dear Picker,
I am now out of purgatory for refusing to pay the fee to the Tulsa World, for online access I would like to say to you "I'll really miss your column this football season". I've got too many hands in my pocket now to go for another subscription. I do however buy a daily for the new price of $1.00 (for which I receive no credit) but I will limit it to an occasional Thursday from now on. I can buy a WSJ for $2.00 and find it to be a better buy.
Perhaps you would be kind enough to pass this on to the Powers That Be and let them know that much better newspapers than theirs have tried this Pay Per View and have failed.
Bye-Bye gunna missya /snif snif/

Another Okie, our subscriptions are up since the switch, pretty amazing don't you think. Your Thursday bread is appreciated, as I am negotiating for a cut of that single issue business. You get 10 freebie looks, ten looks here has to beat the daily pounding the senses take at the Oklahomering.

Pick,
Quit selling the subscriptions are up crap... I have confirmed that is not the case... Sucks having one foot in the grave...
The Picker

JG78, how much is the wager for charity that subscriptions are up?
Golden Hurricane

The picker is half right, half wrong.
On the half he is correct about, he is 100% on the money that the Tulsa World should charge for its product. Personally, I never understood why people feel like they should get the newspaper for free. Does Walmart give you your bread for free? Okay, then shut your pie hole and if you want to read the paper, pay for it.
The other half, he's pretty much wrong...Westbrook has been awful in the late stages of the playoff games...you have the best scorer in the league flanking you...GET HIM THE BALL. There's really no other way dissect that...1-7, 5 4th quarter turnovers and numerous one player possessions will draw justified criticism.
The Picker

GH, you don't think Westbrook has played scared ever since the attacks on him for his role in a losing effort at Denver? He seems much more unsure of himself. What's with all the public blabbing, anyhow, the coach himself saying Westbrook was shooting too much. What does the coach want, the shot clock to run out? Draw up a play, pal, so he'll have something to run. On the pay per read business, what's worth a few pennies if not the Picks.
Golden Hurricane

All I'm saying is that Westbrook has not been good in the latter stages of the majority of the playoff games.
Perhaps the Jokelahoma City media needs to shut up, Lord knows that would do everybody some good, but the useless OKC media aside, Westbrook has played some very costly basketball, especially in the 4th quarter of G3 at the Griz.
No question that the picks are worth a few dimes! Seriously, anyone moaning and groaning about having to pay for the paper should be forced to give away their product as well...oh wait, that would assume that they have a product to sell.

I couldn't tell you squat about the Thunder,
but love the camaraderie shown here!
Maybe the World can open a special subscription
for Picker Access Only - a High Testerone Deal.

Picker,
My point is your subscription rate was so low, it had nowhere to go but up. The majority of subscribers realized the content was free and dropped the paid subscription. However, your paper will never reach those previouse numbers by charging for content. That is why you are gauging us $200 for online only access... This is a stop gap until your operations cease completely.
How else could the oklahoman offer massive amounts of free content online including video, that the TW can't even sniff?
Sounds like to me someone else (caugh...caugh... the OKLAHOMAN) has been able to sustain a reasonalbe amount of subscribers and found how to monitize online content without charging those who search it.
Hard to fathom how the world has fallen so low.
A big leading indicator of your impending demise would be when a cartoon character spews nonsense and draws the majority of responses on the web page.
By the way, Haistens looks like a genious. Milking free tickets to follow the thunder and churning out two paragraph articles. How did he get such a tough job?
Oh and by the way, it is Monday and you still suck!

I guess Russell Westbrook wasnt too scared and unsure of himself last night....40 points and 3 turnovers... and he'll still probably get ripped.
