Thunder Homers

On the pro circuit, being a homer is in the contract.

If you're to announce a game, or sell beer, or analyze a game, or do an interview, you're a team member or you're out. The thinking is: promote the product. Sell tickets. Sell gear. Sell something.

Any pro announcer criticizing the home team has put his or her job on the line.

Therefore you get a lot of this during the home-team TV and radio broadcasts: "Come on ref, are you on their payroll? Stop cheating us! Bad call, bad call!"

The fair-minded fan can't win. The hometown workers are biased for the Thunder. Hacks like Bayless and the suddenly unfunny Barkley are biased against the Thunder.

As far as the NBA race goes, it is wide open.

Every team lacks something important. The Thunder lacks consistent inside scoring and is a turnover machine. Miami is a jump-shooting team as well and has nothing inside. The Bulls have one scorer. The Lakers have no guard who can get the ball across half-court. Griffin of the Clippers can thunderdunk but can't make a four-footer. Dallas could care less. The Celtics are half as old as dirt. San Antonio lacks youthful vigor. Possibly the most balanced?

Memphis.

It would be great for Memphis to go on a run to give Tony Allen a John Starks moment.
