Tiger in Serious Fall from Top

Tiger Woods was always considered a lock to pass Jack Nicklaus’ 18 major championships.
In recent years, as Woods started to decline, there were whispers that Woods’ quest to pass Nicklaus would be a struggle.
Still, just about everyone in golf still believed Woods would get to 19 major championships.
Now, after Woods pulled out after nine holes of the Players Championship on Thursday, there are serious doubts about whether Woods will win even one more major.
Woods’ career is in serious question after this latest physical setback.
He’s 35. He’s had four knee surgeries. He left the Players Championship saying he could barely walk because of knee and foot injuries that had not properly healed.
He’s no longer the world’s best player. In the latest world rankings he’s eighth and on a downward spiral.
When he will be able to return to golf is up in the air. The U.S. Open, at Congressional Country Club, is five weeks away. No one knows if he’ll be ready but this latest setback puts the Open in serious jeopardy.
When Woods won the 2007 PGA Championship at Tulsa’s Southern Hills Country Club, we just assumed it was a matter of time until he passed Nicklaus.
Since then, he’s won just one more major - the 2008 U.S. Open.
I no longer believe he will catch and pass Nicklaus. I just wonder if he will win another major.
