Time for a Change at TU

Former Tulsa coach Doug Wojcik got seven years to rebuild TU basketball and put the Golden Hurricane back into the NCAA Tournament.
It didn’t happen and Wojcik was fired on Sunday.
No one can say Wojcik didn’t get a fair shot.
Seven years is more than enough time to rebuild a program that has excellent facilities, resources and strong fan base.
Tulsa fans were weary of the revolving door for coaches after Buzz Peterson coached Tulsa to the 2001 National Invitation Tournament championship and left after just one season.
That was 11 years ago.
John Phillips was hired as a longterm solution to the constant turnover of coaches for Tulsa basketball.
After two successful years, Tulsa went into serious decline under Phillips and he did not survive a fourth season.
That’s when the job fell to Wojcik.
There was some progress in the first two seasons but the program had become stagnant over the last five years.
Now, Tulsa has plenty of work to do. It won’t be easy.
However, it can be done. There is far too much proof that Tulsa is not only able to get to the NCAA Tournament but to win NCAA Tournament games, too.
It was time for Wojcik to go.
It was time for Tulsa to get a fresh start.
This was the best solution for all concerned.
