Time to Move on for OSU
Published: 4/11/2008 10:27 AM

It would have been foolish if Mike Holder had not talked with Bill Self.
If you have an opening, and there is any chance of luring Self, then you owe it to yourself and your school to talk with Self.
Self is the best coach out there. You have to at least make the effort.
So, he said no. Now, it is time to move on.
There are other good coaches out there. There are other coaches out there that can take OSU to the Final Four and possibly win it all.
OSU has great facilities, resources and a fan base that wants to be at the top.
It needs coaching and players.
Holder took a big risk pushing Sean Sutton out the door. Now, he must find the right coach that can put the Cowboys back on the map.
He didn't win eight national championships as a golf coach, and buiild the nation's best collegiate golf course, by being stupid.
He's a smart guy. OSU must trust that Holder will do the right thing.

What the?! I can't even formulate a sentence to describe the confusion this blog has created in it's utter disregard of the previous one written. John, you basically rip Holder to shreds merely a day ago and now you praise him by saying "he's smart" and "OSU must trust that he will do the right thing"? Seriously, this makes absolutely no sense. What changed in a matter of a day that made you flip to the exact opposite end of the spectrum? Talk about schizophrenia at it's strongest...

I'm kind of confused, too. Yesterday, Klein wrote of Self delivering a "knock-out blow" to OSU, and now he says the Pokes will be fine.

I've thought for a long time that the TW was far more unbiased and committed to journalistic integrity in dealing with OSU than the Daily Oklahoman, a former "worst paper in America" according to the Columbia Journalism Review.

But all that has happened in the wake of the Sean Sutton firing is causing me to change my mind. The Tulsa World has effectively broken one of the golden rules of journalism ethics--it has helped create, rather than report, the story.

From the potential money involved in the deal to the unending speculation that Self was, then was not, and then was coming to OSU, the TW has not honored its committment to reporting the news. It has made up the news.

If the goal of the TW editorial board was to stir up talk and rumor and speculation--to get people repeatedly visiting the website--then good job!!! Mission Accomplished.

It's as dishonorable, though, as George W. Bush claiming "Mission Accomplished" in Iraq four years ago.

Shame on you, Tulsa World.

I agree with this post John. I trust Holder and believe he will get us the best possible coach. Maybe Self will come home next time we need a coach. It worked for Roy Williams and UNC.

I think John posted yesterday in the emotion of the moment. It hurt yesterday when Self turned us down. John may not have been hurt, but he posted what some extreme emotions some fans were having. I think today's post is a lot more close to reality and level headed.

I agree with you. The TW has lost some of its integrity with other writers and journalist who cover KU and OSU sports. For the most part, however, it was Big Daddy Dave Sittler doing the monster mash for hype and silliness. It made the OSU alumni look crass and brassy instead of cool and classy. Sittler has become a sports cynic and his writing has deteriorated as a result. Hopefully Self's decision to stay at a good basketball school in the Big 12 will bring some hope and confidence back into his views of amateur athletics.

NN, that may be true, but he absolutely posted the way HE felt....it's his blog, not the public's. To contradict himself in nearly every facet is just inexcusable. I mean some of the sentences are polar opposites of the blog's before. He is a professional and usually I really enjoy and respect his opinions whether I agree or not. But this looks like an emotional spurt of anger (in a very public forum, no less) covered up by a thinly veiled retraction in effort to salvage his OSU bridges.

this thing goes one moreweek without a coach and everyone is going to get really restless.
