After careful scrutiny of the won-loss records of the state college basketball teams, it’s obvious what time it is.

It’s time to get fired up about that wonderful display of sportsmanship, that glorious gathering of scrappy guys, that fascinating collection of coaches whose names you have heard a time or two before, the coming together of announcers straight from Juco assignments, and camera operators from the bass fishing championship, that’s right, you got it, it’s time to get excited about the National Invitational Tournament!

Outside of ORU, it appears that the state’s other three schools are destined for runs at the NIT. But nothing is guaranteed. Several schools will have to hurry to earn the right to go on the road to play Pine Cone State, located high up in the Idaho smokestack, at 10 p.m. on some week night.

Some might ask: What the devil happened to put my team in this second-rate tournament?

Some might ask: What are you complaining about, we didn’t even make the NIT!

Enough of the negativity.

Let us focus on the joys of the NIT, which are:

1. Plenty of good seats remain.

2. You can lay claim to being one of the best 90 or so teams in the country.

That’s about it.

The bad side is it can be used against you in recruiting.

Another 'joy' of going to the NIT and actually winning it...The chant that the 7 fans that actually follow their team to the Big Apple can shout out with pride...'We're number 66'!

What? No love for the USFL of post-season tournaments, the New College Postseason Classic Shampionship Shootout Battle for #98 in the country thingy?

OSUNDN;

You are jealous because I have a BB Tourney named for me.
