Travis Ford's Gag Order
Published: 1/22/2009 9:52 AM
Last Modified: 1/22/2009 9:52 AM

Oklahoma State basketball coach Travis Ford said following a two-point loss against Missouri that he is "not saying another word to another official all year long."
OSU has lost back-to-back cliffhangers and a pivotal call went against the Cowboys in the final minute of regulation in both games.
Ford's words seem to imply that he thinks his team is not getting benefit of the doubt from officials and perhaps the reason why is he has said something -- or too many things -- to the guys in striped shirts during games.
"Maybe I'm a little too talkative to the refs or something," Ford said. "I don't know. I'm going to keep my mouth shut. Maybe all the officials will see that and know that, hey, I'm just going to coach my team and (do) whatever I need to do."
Question No. 1: Can Ford keep his pledge and not say anything to officials during games?
Doubt it. It's tough for any coach to bite his tongue during games and there's too much gamesmanship between coaches and refs for Ford to stay silent.
Question No. 2: Do refs hold a grudge against coaches that tend to give them too much "advice?"
As professionals, they shouldn't. As human beings, they might.

Jimmie, I knew it was the right thing to do for Ford to send in that tape. I also knew that the fraternity that we call the Big 12 referees would send a message right back. It's wrong to have to play by their dirty, immature rules but what else can Ford do?

An even better question is how long will this go on? There's no doubt the refs read between the lines when he made his latest comments so how will the officiating be when OU comes to town this Monday?

excuses, excuses...

Interesting post Zach, what team do you cheer for?

Maybe instead of blaming the refs Ford should work on his team not blowing 17 point leads.......hmmmm just a thought.

Jimmie, I think you need to look at the last play in regulation against Nebraska and tell me if you think Eaton got fouled - right in front of the official. This would make it 3 in a roll for me.

Further more, I thought the first play in the 2nd half of the Baylor game Terrel hit a 3 pointer and got two points - Can you look at the tape? This point would be worth sending in to the Big 12 (not an opinionative call). I used my DVR and I thought it was clear. (maybe they changed it later and I didn't notice)

I find it comical that Eric and Zach have the opinions they do yet if it were their teams this happened to...
