Tulsa Basketball and Scott Sutton

If Tulsa and Scott Sutton wanted to make an agreement it could have happened within minutes of TU’s announcement that it was firing basketball coach Doug Wojcik.
TU knows where Sutton lives. Sutton knows how to find 11th and Harvard.
That doesn’t mean Sutton is not a candidate, perhaps even the favorite, to be the next Tulsa baskebtall coach.
It just means TU and Sutton are taking their time, exploring all of their options.
Tulsa basketball remains an attractive job and has drawn a long list of possibilities.
At the same time, Sutton, after 12 successful years as the Oral Roberts, is a hot coaching property.
It makes sense that both sides want to take their time and explore all of their options.
Sutton has passed on several jobs in recent years, including Wichita State and TCU, to stay at Oral Roberts. He is patient and willing to wait on what he considers the right job.
At the same, Tulsa has to be make sure it gets the right coach. The Golden Hurricane, considered one of the top mid-major programs for 25 years, has now missed the NCAA Tournament nine straight years.
So, Tulsa wants to make absolute sure that it has looked at all of the possibilities because it is such an important hire.
It may be taking more time for TU and Sutton to find what they want but it makes sense to explore every option.

I'm tired of reading and hearing of the speculation from the media that Scott Sutton should be the TU basketball coach. Coach Sutton is a good person and good coach; he isn't the answer for TU. He's just not a fit.

Please give this a rest. Just because Bill Self had success at TU and he previously coached at ORU doesn't mean that Scott Sutton would achieve success.

TU had chances to hire three Self assistants, but declined to do so. Each of them went on to major schools. Now another Self assistant is available. Are we going to make the fourth mistake?
